Job Description
The purpose of the class is to assist in identifying and providing needed services to defendants who have been charged with crimes in Richland County who are represented by the Richland County Public Defender's Office.
Meet with and interview detained defendants at bond court, prior to bond court, and after bond court.
Identify resources and services in the community for clients needing mental or physical health treatment, housing, employment, obtaining identification documents, transportation, social security benefits, and all needs related to re-entering the community after arrest and incarceration, as conditions of release on bond or as an alternative to incarceration.
Develop and maintain relationships with clients, their family members, local social service providers and pretrial service/probation officers, and perform other tasks as required.
Applicants should have a commitment to providing quality representation to indigent defendants, a personality that allows them to deal with many different types of individuals and a reputation for personal integrity.
Applicants must have a working knowledge of the criminal justice and correctional systems as well as psychology and psychological testing.
Involves extensive interaction with defendants in detention facilities to include jails and prisons.
In-County travel is required.
Masters in Social Work required.
Requires no experience but experience with indigent criminal defense system a plus.
