QA Test Engineer

Salary range $65k - $85k Commensurate with experience.

Position Title: Junior QA Engineer

Reports To: Director of Quality Assurance

Key Responsibilities

Test Execution & Documentation

• Execute manual and automated test cases for hardware, software, and firmware components
• Document test results, defects, and quality metrics in accordance with established procedures
• Participate in test case design and review processes
• Maintain accurate test documentation and contribute to test strategy development
• Support creation and maintenance of test procedures and quality documentation

Automation & Scripting

• Develop and maintain automated test scripts using Python and testing frameworks
• Contribute to test automation strategy implementation across product layers
• Support CI/CD pipeline testing integration and maintenance
• Assist in test data management and test environment setup
• Learn and apply various testing tools and frameworks under guidance

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work closely with engineering, product management, and operations teams
• Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies including sprint planning and retrospectives
• Support defect triage and resolution processes
• Collaborate on cross-functional testing workflows integrating HW/SW/FW validation
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives

Learning & Development

• Participate in training programs for system test engineering across HW/SW/FW disciplines
• Learn risk-based testing approaches and exploratory testing methodologies
• Develop understanding of quality standards and regulatory requirements
• Stay current with testing tools, methodologies, and industry best practices
• Support AI tool implementation and testing innovation initiatives

Quality Assurance Support

• Assist with defect management processes and quality KPI tracking
• Support FMEA activities to identify and reduce field issues
• Participate in product intake and feature testing workflows
• Help maintain quality levels across Inovonics products
• Contribute to test coverage analysis and optimization efforts

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or related technical field
• Proficiency in Python programming language with ability to write clean, maintainable code
• 0-2 years of experience in software testing, quality assurance, or related technical role
• Basic understanding of software development lifecycle and testing methodologies
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
• Detail-oriented mindset with commitment to quality
• Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced, evolving environment

Technical Skills

• Familiarity with testing concepts (functional, integration, regression testing)
• Basic understanding of version control systems (Git preferred)
• Knowledge of bug tracking and project management tools (Jira experience a plus)
• Understanding of basic networking and hardware concepts
• Experience with Linux/Unix command line interface preferred

Methodological Knowledge

• Basic understanding of Agile/Scrum development methodologies
• Interest in learning test automation frameworks and tools
• Knowledge of database concepts and SQL basics preferred
• Understanding of API testing concepts and tools (Postman, REST APIs)

Preferred Qualifications

• Internship or project experience in software testing or quality assurance
• Familiarity with IoT, embedded systems, or integrated hardware/software products
• Experience with additional programming languages (Java, JavaScript, C++)
• Knowledge of continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) concepts
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
• Understanding of security testing principles
• Exposure to machine learning or AI concepts in testing

Key Success Metrics

• Successful completion of onboarding and training program within first 90 days
• Effective execution of assigned test cases with high accuracy and thoroughness
• Development of Python automation scripts that contribute to team efficiency
• Active participation in team processes and continuous improvement initiatives
• Progress toward intermediate QA engineer competencies within first year
• Contribution to defect detection and quality improvement efforts
