Job Description
Overview:
The QA/QC Specialist – Electrical Construction is responsible for implementing and maintaining quality assurance and quality control procedures on electrical construction projects. The role ensures that all work is performed in accordance with Alterman safety policies, project specifications, codes, and company standards.
Essential Functions:
1. Field Inspections: 50%
- Conducts field inspections and audits of electrical installations for compliance with the National Electric Code (NEC), Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) requirements, project specifications, contract documents and craftsmanship.
- Witnesses and validates electrical system including but not limited to, testing, including grounding, insulation resistance, continuity, and circuit verification.
- Supports commissioning efforts and facilitates completion of project closeout documentation per the contract documents.
- Collaborates with Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen, and field teams to ensure installations are completed accurately and in accordance with project specifications.
- Promotes adherence to quality and safety standards across all job sites.
2. QA/QC Documentation & Reporting: 35%
- Develops and maintains QA/QC documentation, including but not limited to, inspection checklists, inspection test plans (ITPs), punch lists, test records, and as-built documentation.
- Reviews submittals and shop drawings to ensure alignment with project specifications and verify that installations comply accordingly.
- Tracks deficiencies, issues punch lists, and verifies corrective actions are completed.
- Documents inspection results through reports, test logs, site photos and electronic means.
- Oversees and organizes QA/QC records for each project to support audits, compliance, and client requirements.
3. Quality Planning: 10%
- Collaborates with project managers, superintendents, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to uphold quality expectations.
- Participates in pre-task planning and project meetings to provide quality related input.
- Trains field teams on QA/QC procedures, inspection readiness, and code compliance expectations.
- Supports the development and implementation of project-specific quality plans.
- Identifies non-conformances, tracks resolutions, and promotes continuous improvement efforts.
4. Performs other duties as assigned. 5%
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
- 5 years of experience in electrical construction or QA/QC roles, preferably in commercial or industrial projects.
- Hold valid Journeymen’s license.
- Certifications such as OSHA 30, ASQ Certified Quality Technician (CQT), or NICET are a plus.
Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent documentation and organizational skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify quality issues in the field.
- Able to read and interpret electrical drawings, specs, and submittals.
- Able to work well with field and office teams.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and quality management software or platforms.
- Strong working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), OSHA regulations, and relevant industry standards (e.g., NETA, NFPA 70E).
Work Environment:
- Office environment with some travel required.
- Outdoor work environment with exposure to dust, heat and cold.
Physical Demands:
- Prolonged periods of walking, standing, sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds at times.
- Must be able to walk, stand, climb, and navigate active construction zones.
