JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Supervisor of Communications plans, coordinates, implements and directs the daily operation of Radiology reception, scheduling, and the digital library located at the MCHV, UHC, FAH, ACC and OSC campuses of University of Vermont Medical Center. In addition, the supervisor works with the precertification and coding teams to ensure optimization of compliance and reimbursement practices. Primary responsibilities include the staffing, orientation, training, maintenance and evaluation of the schedulers, reception staff, and digital library staff, and supervision of daily operations.

EDUCATION:

Three years of experience in scheduling and/or receptionist activities preferably in a leadership position.

Knowledge of computer systems and applications is required. Demonstrated planning, organization and analytical skills required. Ability to provide constructive leadership under pressure and lead a staff of employees at multiple locations. Ability to interact effectively on a daily basis with multiple staff members and Leaders within Radiology, and with multi-disciplinary staff members in other hospital departments and physician offices at multiple locations. Required training and knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy, a variety of computer equipment such as PCs, barcode readers and printers. Possess demonstrated leadership, initiative, and strong written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated commitment to providing patients with high-quality care in a safe and respectful environment.

EXPERIENCE:

Thorough knowledge of medical terminology. Knowledge of computer systems and applications.

Knowledge of process control and improvement strategies. Planning and organizational skills.

Penchant for teaching.

Independent judgement.

Demonstrated knowledge of the correct coding initiative.

Demonstrated knowledge of healthcare coding utilizing ICD-9 coding and CPT-4 coding.
