Job Description Summary:

Under limited supervision of the Recreation Center Supervisor and Recreation Member Service Supervisor, provides exceptional customer service to patrons, performs cash handling duties, and registration system functions including registering patrons for programs and services of the department at any of the city of Boulder's recreation facilities. Assists with facility operations and performs related duties as required.

This position is scheduled to work Wednesday through Sunday evenings.

Job Description:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides excellent customer service to the patrons of the recreation facilities.

  • Interacts with the Department of Parks and Recreation customers by greeting patrons, answering phones, providing information about services and programs, checking in patrons and checking out equipment.

  • Communicates effectively with facility patrons in person and over the phone to market and promote Parks and Recreation Programs and services, which may include giving tours and preparing flyers.

  • Understands and effectively enforces all relevant code and City policy that dictates use of the facilities to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all.

  • Operates the recreation management system.

  • Registers participants for classes and activities and has strong knowledge of program areas.

  • Sells memberships and daily entries; checks patrons in to use the facility.

  • Utilizes the facility calendars to understand scheduled events.

  • Assists patrons with facility rentals such as birthday parties and meeting space rentals.

  • Stays informed of all related events, policies, and updates relevant to the role through City communication channels.

  • Performs cash handling in accordance with the City and Department policies and internal controls and can accurately balance cash drawer and provide accurate change

  • Performs related duties as required to meet the needs of the city.

  • Takes proper safety precautions to prevent accidents. Responsible for the safety of self, others, materials, and equipment.

  • Uses all required safety equipment and follows all safety regulations, policies and procedures. Reports all accidents and damage to City property.

  • Knows and complies with all City and department personnel policies; participating in professional trainings and development; and adhering to attendance and workplace attire policies.

  • Maintains functional and clean spaces in the facility when custodial staff are not available.

  • Supports emergency operations during emergency incidents or events as needed.

  • Serves as a lead worker.

  • Resolves customer concerns, incidents and program issues as they occur.

  • Completes accident and incident reports as necessary.

  • Maintains knowledge of the operations of all three recreation centers and two outdoor pools, including ability to open and close each facility.

  • Reports facility issues and monitoring facility by periodic building walk-throughs.

  • Arranges with Facilities Department for repair of unplanned, emergency facility problems.

  • Provides assistance to other front desk employees.

  • Provides general direction to custodial staff as needed on a daily basis.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse people in an organizational context.

  • Ability, interest, and desire to provide excellent customer service in person and on the telephone.

  • Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, and possibly City holidays.

  • Valid Driver's license and ability to maintain an acceptable motor vehicle background.

  • Have and maintain acceptable background information, including criminal conviction history.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working for a public or private recreation facility.

  • Experience with the SmartRec by Amilia recreation management software system.

  • Prior experience as a lead worker.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office.

  • Ability to communicate bilingually in English and Spanish (Conversational level in Spanish).

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

  • One (1) to two (2) years of customer service experience.

  • Cash handling experience.

  • Current First Aid/AED and CPR certifications within 90 days of hire.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Physical and Mental Effort: Primarily sedentary physical work requiring the ability to lift a maximum of 10 pounds; occasional lifting and carrying; frequent walking and standing. Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities that permits the employee to communicate effectively on the telephone and in person. Sufficient vision or other powers of observation that permits the employee to review, evaluate and prepare a variety of written documents and materials. Sufficient manual dexterity that permits the employee to operate computer equipment and other office equipment. Sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, which permits the employee to work in an office setting. Work may include extended periods of time viewing a computer video monitor and/ or operating a keyboard. Ability to work under stress from demanding deadlines, public contact, and changing priorities and conditions.

  • Work Environment: Works primarily in a clean, comfortable, indoor environment.  Works in a setting subject to continuous interruptions and background noises.

  • Machines and Equipment Used: Uses standard office equipment including computers, printers, and phones, as well as other equipment such as washers/dryers, cardio or strength equipment, and stereos.
