Job Description:

The Department of History in the College of Arts and Sciences at American University invites applications for a term faculty appointment as Research Assistant Professor for Spring Semester 2026. Rank will be dependent on experience and stature in the field. The appointment is a one-semester term position and will commence on January 1, 2026 and will end on May 31, 2026.

Applicants should hold a PhD or other terminal degree. The position will require the incumbent to teach one undergraduate course during Spring 2026 in Jewish Studies, such as JWST 210, "Voices of Modern Jewish Literature," or HIST 245, "Modern Jewish Civilization." The incumbent will also be responsible for supervising student internships and senior theses in Jewish Studies, conducting research in Jewish Studies and on antisemitism, and supporting the Jewish Studies and Israel Studies programs. All faculty are expected to hold office hours and participate in School and University activities and service.

The salary range for the position is $35,000 - $37,500 for the Spring 2026 semester (January 1, 2026 through May 31, 2026).
