Salary Range

$65,000.00 - $101,000.00

Overview

The Identity & Conflict Lab (ICL) (https://campuspress.yale.edu/yaleicl/) at Yale University, is seeking to appoint a full-time Research Associate. The Research Associate will serve as a data analyst and project manager for ongoing projects and will be responsible for several data-intensive tasks, including survey data collection; data cleaning and manipulation; data analysis using various methods for causal inference; and data visualization tasks such as creating figures, tables, maps and infographics for academic papers and policy briefs. The ideal candidate should be very skilled in survey research techniques and proficient with Qualtrics; and should have outstanding programming/data analysis skills using both Stata and R.

Required Skills and Abilities

  1. The successful candidate will have be self-motivated, interested in problem-solving work; capable of flexible and independent thinking; and should possess outstanding organizational skills and the ability to work independently on more than a single task

  2. Candidates should have a proven record of prior work experience applying data analysis skills to a social science problem; they should be capable of working fast and accurately to manage and analyze large data sets; and should have prior experience with survey research questionnaires.

  3. Candidates should have fluency in data analysis with Stata; and should also be proficient in R. The ideal candidate will also have the ability to program in Javascript and Python, but this is not required.

  4. Candidates should have excellent oral and written communication skills in English.

  5. Demonstrated positive attitude and commitment to working as a member of a center-wide team. The ideal candidate should have the ability to understand, communicate, and effectively interact with people across cultures; be open to learning about new ideas and new methods and interested in exploring topics related to social identity and political conflict within and across countries.

Preferred Education and Experience

Bachelor's Degree in a Social Science field with extensive coursework/training in statistical analysis and causal inference methods; graduate-level coursework in a quantitative Masters program is highly desirable. Prior research experience using methods of statistical inference and econometrics

Principal Responsibilities

  1. Carries out research within the scope of the established study protocol. 2. Determines potential sources of funding and prospective partnerships. 3. Evaluates feasibility of accepting potential projects through analysis of staffing needs, resource requirements, financial costs, and current planned capacity of group. Negotiates contracts and/or changes with funder. 4. Based on knowledge of research goals, collaborates with PIs on major revisions and contributes to research protocols. Plans and implements changes. 5. Develops forms, questionnaires and the application of research techniques; writes procedures manuals for data collection and coding. 6. Responsible for the documentation and transmission of study data. Ensures that report forms are accurately documented and completed in a timely manner at each site location. 7. Works independently to develop, manage, and organize multi-site studies. Serves as primary coordinator between University, non-Yale collaborators, and funding sources. 8. Performs descriptive and multivariate statistical analyses of data, using computer software. 9. Designs and implements quality control measures to ensure accurate collection and processing of data. 10. Contributes in-depth, original thought and relevance to written reports and to the writing of abstracts and manuscripts. Required Education and Experience Master's Degree in a related discipline and two years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
