Job Description

Prepares and dispenses prescriptions as ordered by qualified prescriber. Reviews prescriptions for appropriate indication, does, regimen, route, potential interactions or allergies. Counsels patients on medications as requested. Adheres to state and federal regulations governing retail pharmacy. Manages daily operations of retail pharmacy.

Contacting and conferring physicians if there are any questions or irregularities regarding

medication orders.

  • Maintaining inventory and records of narcotics.
  • Responsible for the collection of Quality Assurance/Performance improvement data.
  • Interprets prescription orders and contacts provider or insurer as indicated.
  • Prepares and dispenses prescriptions in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  • Maintain patient's profile to include information on allergies, disease history, and other

information as appropriate.

  • Performs medication counseling for patients as required.
  • Supervise activities and checks work on pharmacy technicians.
  • Oversees accounting and financial records related to purchasing, dispensing, and remittance.

Reconciles third party payments and submits claim disputes as necessary.

  • Serves as Pharmacist in Charge in accordance with Louisiana State Board of Pharmacy

requirements. Responsible for complete supervision, management and compliance with all

federal and state pharmacy laws and regulations.

  • Develops policy/procedure regarding quality pharmacy services including drug control,

distribution, patient compliance accountability, inspection and record keeping.

  • Responsible for all aspects of prescription benefit manager contracts. Prepares and submits

contract documents

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors Degree or Doctorate of Pharmacy, must meet state requirements for Pharmacist and registered by the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy
  • Minimum of three years of experience in retail pharmacy
  • Supervisory experience preferred
