DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: The Safety division of the Quality Management department within St. Charles Health System, provides services which promote the physical and psychological safety of patients, visitors, and caregivers in our multi-hospital health system. Services include risk assessment, plan development and implementation, safety policy / procedure management, and proactive process improvement to prevent harm.
POSITION OVERVIEW: The Caregiver Occupational Health Nurse at St. Charles Health System develops, implements and administers programs that support the organization's caregiver and occupational health functions including required immunizations, exposure control and follow up. The Caregiver Occupational Health Nurse will provide services to all St. Charles Health System locations as assigned.
This position does not directly manage any other caregivers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:
Maintains accurate records of licensed independent providers vaccinations/TB testing to be given to Medical Staff Service for provider records.
Maintain accurate records of all contract and agency employees in collaboration with Human Resources.
Maintains a complete and confidential health record on each caregiver according to established work instructions and regulatory requirements.
Collects, analyzes, and reports caregiver health activities and exposure data statistics and trends; recommends and implements process improvements.
Investigates and tracks caregivers following exposure to blood and body fluids and other infections exposures as listed in communicable disease policy. Provides appropriate follow-up care, including HIV, Hep B, and Hep C testing and treatment counseling. Maintains investigative documentation of each exposure. Consults with Infection Prevention and Infectious Disease Medical Director for exposure follow up. Accesses and reviews patient records in EMR system for chart review, lab results and to monitor follow up.
Counsels or refers caregivers regarding health issues or questions.
Interacts with St. Charles Health System leaders and staff to provide caregiver occupational health information through staff meetings, daily huddles, written and other communications.
Assesses the work environment for potential health and safety issues. Provides counsel and recommendations on ways to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.
Administers and/or oversees assigned caregiver occupational health programs such as annual N-95/PAPR fit testing, hearing tests, and other testing as required.
Develops, regularly reviews and implements work instructions and policies to support and maintain compliance of the caregiver occupational health function.
Maintains current knowledge of best practices for caregiver and occupational health. Advises leaders on processes and steps to maintain compliance with health and safety requirements as it relates to caregiver occupational health strategies.
Participates on assigned committees such as the safety committee, infection control committee and product evaluation committee.
Provides additional coverage and assistance to Infection Prevention and Infectious Diseases Medical Director in the event of any disaster situation (infections or otherwise).
Participates in creating a healing environment that supports all aspects of the care environment and the wholeness of each individual, and caregiver.
Participates in creating intentional relationships and demonstrates focus attitudes and behaviors that enhance the care experience.
Calculates dosages and administers medications accurately in accordance with St. Charles Health System policies and procedures for medication administration.
Documents all caregiver care with proficiency in compliance with hospital policies and regulatory agencies
Coordinates caregiver health function at St. Charles Health System by ensuring new hires have completed health assessments, required immunizations, and TB testing.
Maintains a proactive, preventative presence to ensure the health and well-being of caregivers.
Provides immunizations to caregivers, volunteers, and licensed independent practitioners as directed. Performs annual influenza vaccinations for caregivers, volunteers, and licensed independent practitioners. Maintains all records of immunizations.

Documents all patient care with proficiency in compliance with hospital policies and regulatory agencies.
Calculates dosages and administers medications accurately in accordance with the organization's policies and procedures for medication administration.
EDUCATION:
Required: As required by RN licensure
Preferred: Additional courses in occupational and employee health.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:
Required: Current Oregon RN license. Valid Oregon driver's license and meet St. Charles Health System driving requirements. Ability to travel to all St. Charles Health System worksites.

EXPERIENCE:
Required: Minimum of five (5) years of Clinical Nursing experience. Minimum of three (3) years occupational or employee health nursing experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred: Hospital specific employee health nursing experience.
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT:
Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely.
