Job Description

Do you have a sharp eye for detail and a passion for building safe, secure transit systems? Join us as a Safety and Security Planning Engineer, where you'll take the lead in developing and maintaining Safety and Security Management and Certification Plans that keep projects compliant and communities protected. In this role, you'll collaborate with project teams, contractors, and regulatory agencies to ensure risks are identified early, mitigation strategies are in place, and every project is ready for certification. Your expertise will help shape the safety and security of critical transit infrastructure that thousands rely on every day.

Essential Functions

  • Assess and document safety and security activities across transit projects.
  • Develop new Safety and Security Management Plans (SSMP) or revise existing plans.
  • Create Safety and Security Certification Plans (SSCP) to support compliance and readiness for regulatory review.
  • Ensure all documentation aligns with federal, state, and local safety and security regulations, as well as industry best practices.
  • Provide guidance to project teams on implementing safety and security measures per SSMP and SSCP requirements.
  • Support audits, inspections, and reviews related to safety and security compliance.
  • Prepare professional reports and documentation for submission to management and regulatory authorities.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Competencies

  • Strong understanding of Safety and Security Management Plans (SSMP) and Certification Plans (SSCP).
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local safety and security regulations and requirements.
  • Ability to document complex safety and security processes accurately and clearly.
  • Experience conducting audits, inspections, or reviews of safety and security programs.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with project management, documentation, and reporting tools.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Safety Engineering, Systems Engineering, Security Management, or related field.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in safety, security, or systems engineering within transit, transportation, or infrastructure projects.

  • Demonstrated experience developing or revising SSMPs and SSCPs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Safety, Security, Systems Engineering, or related discipline.

  • Professional certifications such as CSS (Certified System Safety Professional), CSP (Certified Safety Professional), or related credentials.

  • Experience supporting federally funded transit or infrastructure projects.

  • Experience coordinating with regulatory agencies on safety and security compliance.

Compensation

  • $43.25 - $50.55 hourly, depending on experience, ability, and capability.
