Job Description
Essential Functions
- Keeps the organization current and knowledgeable with all pertinent health and safety regulations.
- Ensure investigations for all injury and property damage incidents produce adequate follow-up addressing root cause(s) of incident.
- Inspects the facility to identify safety, health, and environmental risks.
- Develops and implements inspection policies and procedures and a schedule of routine inspections.
- Develops health and safety procedures for all areas of the company.
- Lead the organization to a Zero Incident Mindset.
- Prepares and schedules training to cover emergency procedures, workplace safety and other relevant topics.
- Maintain and update comprehensive and accurate documentation (i.e., environmental permits and reporting, safety training records, OSHA logs, etc.).
- Develop strong relations with key regulatory agencies and personnel.
- Stay current on industry practices regarding environmental and safety compliance.
- Participate and influence new rule-making efforts potentially affecting OCI interests.
- Develop and implement innovative, proactive training processes and systems to take OCI beyond compliance.
- Participate in industry councils with an emphasis on implementing best practices for continuous improvement.
- Manage departmental budget for safety and environmental compliance, training, testing and reporting.
- Completes other duties as assigned.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Undergraduate degree in engineering, business, or related field preferred
- Experience in the chemical process industry preferred
- Strong understanding of regulations (OSHA, PSM, DOT Hazmat, etc.), federal and state – 10 years of experience required in addition to the following:
- Ability to decipher/understand/translate regulations and changes
- Ability and experience participating /influencing proposed changes
- Ability and experience of successfully working with regulatory agencies
- 5 years of experience developing and implementing training programs (operator simulation training a plus)
- Proven ability to have influence without control
- Excellent communication skills
- Proven ability to lead and facilitate teams

Ability to meet the following physical demands:
- Climb 5-10 flights of stairs
- Climb ladders
- Wear PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, hear protection, safety shoes)
- Walk on rough surfaces without assistance
