Job Summary:
SUMMARY
This position ensures plant compliance (both SGI employees and outside contractors) with all MSHA, NIOSH, state, and local regulations through training and auditing activities. Develop and implement SGI safety policies and required training. Acts as a champion for safety. Accompanies Regulatory inspectors while on-site.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Champion, drive, and lead safety improvements within the SGI Plant. Develop a culture of Safety First.
Act as an advisor to the Safety Steering Committee
Champion all safety efforts where applicable, to minimize all injuries
Facilitate all MSHA audits and inspections
Maintain accurate, timely and update records. Organize all files, and documents for regulatory compliance.
Audit plant safety program/expectations and MSHA compliance
Develop corrective action plans and follow up until completed and sustained
Manage MSHA required training and documentation
Conduct industrial hygiene sampling, reporting, and compliance.
Conduct respirator fit tests
Develop, implement and sustain SGI specific Safety and Health policies and trainings
Conducts all plant Safety visits/tours by governmental agencies
Conduct accident investigations, develop response to MSHA citations and challenges to citations, if warranted
Act as an advisor to Site Management, SGI EHS personnel and corporate EHS on all matters pertaining to safety
Prepare and present monthly Good Catch / Near Hit presentations
Create and communicate pertinent Safety Alerts throughout SGI
Audit, maintain, and communicate all required Safety related goals and objectives for plant personnel with appropriate managers
Ensure current best practices, standards, and regulations are adopted and maintain SGI compliance
Routinely audit contractors for SGI/MSHA compliance
Audit safety compliance of all major capital projects
Audit safety of activities during any major shutdown
Make recommendations to improve current controls and procedures
Serve as the Primary Point of Contact for Axiom Medical
Act as the Primary Security Representative and conduct all duties within
Maintain and serve as point of contact for safety related contractors / vendors; ie: fire extinguisher inspections and services, first aid / AED, post incident / reasonable suspicion testing providers, etc.
Maintain emergency response preparedness in coordination with local emergency responders
Enter purchase requisitions and receive goods and services in SAP

Strong knowledge and understanding of MSHA Part 46, 56, and 50 /NIOSH regulations/requirements

Strong incident investigation skills, including root cause analysis
Skilled at hazard recognition and corrective action
Maintain DOT Hazardous Material Shipper certification

Education/Experience·
B.S. Degree in Safety Management or related field, preferred
5+ years safety management in a mining environment preferred, will consider comparable OSHA experience

Travel Requirements: 5-10% (subject to change based on need)
Working Conditions: Office, travel, and outdoors/indoors within a Process Plant and Mine environment
Physical Requirements: Computer, ability to make oral presentations, lifting objects up to 50 lbs., standing or sitting for extended periods, extended or irregular hours, bending, climbing, kneeling, stooping, walking on uneven terrain. Must be able to wear all required personal protective equipment and work outdoors in temperature extremes
