Position Overview:

Competitive Range Solutions is seeking a highly skilled SATCOM Solutions Architect (Mid-Level) – Modem/Baseband Engineer to support advanced satellite communications engineering efforts across strategic and tactical environments. This role requires a professional with demonstrated expertise in modem/baseband technologies, multi‑frequency TDMA, frequency‑division multiple access, and modern SATCOM architectures spanning narrowband, wideband, and protected systems.

The ideal candidate thrives in complex technical environments, brings originality and innovation to problem-solving, and operates with significant autonomy. This position may include supervisory responsibilities and requires the ability to guide others in the operation and maintenance of SATCOM systems.

Key Responsibilities:

SATCOM Engineering & Operations

  • Install, configure, operate, align, and conduct performance testing on satellite communications equipment.
  • Perform communications engineering activities to extend global Gateway capabilities supporting voice, video, data, IP modems, strategic aircraft communications, and DISN transport.
  • Support MILSATCOM, COMSATCOM, terrestrial, and mobile network integration for both strategic and tactical users.
  • Install and operate tactical satellite antenna systems.

Modem/Baseband Expertise

  • Apply engineering knowledge of multi-frequency TDMA, FDMA, and other modem/baseband technologies.
  • Support IP-based modem configurations and advanced waveform implementations.
  • Troubleshoot and optimize modem/baseband performance across diverse SATCOM architectures.

Maintenance & Security

  • Conduct preventive maintenance checks and services on satellite communication security systems.
  • Identify and report electronic jamming or deception activities and apply appropriate electronic countermeasures.
  • Ensure availability of backup equipment, spares, and repair parts to maintain continuous system operations.

Network Operations

  • Perform complex tasks associated with stressed and unstressed network operations.
  • Supervise and execute alignment, control functions, and direct support maintenance on assigned communications equipment.
  • Compile system and network performance statistics for reporting and analysis.

Leadership & Technical Support

  • Provide technical assistance and mentorship to subordinates engaged in SATCOM system operations and maintenance.
  • Develop methodologies and present innovative solutions to complex technical challenges.

Qualifications/Experience:

  • 3–7 years of relevant SATCOM, modem/baseband, or communications engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with MILSATCOM, COMSATCOM, and modern SATCOM technologies.
  • Hands-on experience with TDMA, FDMA, and multi-access modem systems.
  • Strong understanding of IP-based communications and network transport architectures.
  • Ability to work independently with appreciable latitude and minimal supervision.
  • Experience supervising or mentoring junior personnel.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex SATCOM and network issues in operational environments.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Government issued Top Secret clearance required.
  • Valid Passport is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting strategic aircraft communications or DISN transport.
  • Familiarity with protected SATCOM systems (AEHF, WGS, etc.).
  • Certifications such as CCNA, Security+, or vendor-specific SATCOM training.
  • Prior military SATCOM experience or DoD communications background.
