Job Description

Looking for highly motivated students who want to make a difference in the community. You will be working with local students in 7th-12th grade to tutor and mentor them in various subject matter. Students will have an information session with the Director/Assistant Director before they start their role.DEPARTMENT: STEP - Science and Technology Entry Program
LOCATION: Kenney Center for Community Engagement and Outreach
STUDENT SUPERVISORS: Kevin Trigonis
WORK AVAILABLE: Week Days/Possible Weekends
RATE OF PAY: $12.70/hr
The Science and Technology Entry Program was established in 1985 by the NYS Legislature to prepare historically underrepresented and economically disadvantaged students for entry into post-secondary degree programs in math, science, technology, health-related fields, and licensed professions.
POSSIBLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
·Tutor students in grades 7-12 to enhance their academic support system
·In-person Mentor at Schenectady Middle Schools (Tuesday/Thursday 3-5pm)
·Help run Saturday STEM workshops (usually 9am-1pm)
·Report notes to the STEP Staff
·Help with administrative work within the department
·Create programming and experiences for the STEP Students
QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION:
·Looking for personable, trustworthy and detail-oriented individuals
·Great overall communication skills
·Able to communicate well in-person, over the phone, or over Zoom
·Must be passionate about working with students in grades 7-12
·Proficient with utilizing Zoom and Excel
