The purpose of this entry level position is to perform work on a rotating shift basis, which includes nights, weekends and holidays as scheduled. Perform security related duties involving patrolling and observing conditions and situations within assigned areas, identifying, and responding to unusual occurrences such as unauthorized persons, fires and other threats to property or persons and taking appropriate action, admitting persons into building and providing assistance to individuals and maintaining building register. Report to duty early enough to ensure continuity of coverage, including enough time for special instructions and briefings. Works with supervision and will be responsible for verbally reporting or making written reports of unusual incidents, hazardous conditions, or emergencies.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or equivalent
WORK EXPERIENCE
- Prior security, military or law enforcement experience is preferred
- Must become licensed by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) as a commissioned security officer, or must successfully complete Level III security officer training in a program approved by the DPS.
- Must become certified in CPR, first aid and AED as an HCAD first responder.

General Responsibilities
- Remain alert and attentive to detect and identify unusual and or hazardous situations and take appropriate action.
- Perform basic security work in safeguarding building, property and equipment of Harris Central Appraisal District.
- Patrol and guard property against loss or damage from fire, theft or vandalism and unauthorized persons.
- Enforce the rules and regulations pertaining to entry and departure of authorized persons.
- Direct visitors within a specific area.
- Maintain building register and monitor security cameras.
- Deal with stressful situations.
- Work assigned posts.
- Monitor surveillance equipment; routinely inspect building, equipment, and access points.
- Respond to panic alarms
- Participate in trainings to keep Level III security license up to date. Complete other trainings assigned to improve skills and competence.
- Control vehicle traffic directing drivers around the perimeter of the building.
- Complete reports by recording observations, information, occurrences, and surveillance activities.
- Ensure operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
- Contribute to the security team's mission through collaboration.
- Work assigned shift and upon request work where needed (other shifts assigned).
- Report to work daily on time for your assigned shift and comply fully with the employee handbook policy 4.3.1 Notice of Absence or Tardiness.
- Report to work in full uniform and pass all uniform inspections.
- Check emails throughout shift to stay abreast on security shared information.
- Expected to immediately follow all lawful directives given by immediate supervisor and security manager without delay.
- Complete and participate in all duties assigned.
- Maintain confidentiality of security sensitive information.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Positions in this class typically require repetitive motions, sitting or standing for prolonged periods of time in an office setting.
PHYSICAL & MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Positions in this class typically require repetitive motions, walking, talking and hearing. Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time with ability to reach, bend and move up/down on steps. Manual dexterity to operate a computer keyboard and standard office equipment with ability to effectively communicate by phone, e-mail, writing and face to face required. Must be able to lift up to 50-pounds.. The position requires considerable concentration, creativity and ability to manage time effectively. The position is subject to stress caused by a changing public environment, mandatory deadlines and heavy workload. Requires the ability to ask questions that will bring forth the information needed to make sound decisions.
