Job Description

We are a leading provider of custom protective solutions for high-value equipment across multiple industries, including medical, military, photography, and industrial markets. Our work centers on designing and producing precision inserts and protective systems that ensure equipment stays secure during transport, shipping, and storage. Using an advanced web-based design platform, we create highly detailed, customizable layouts that meet the exact specifications of our customers. Our commitment to quality, practical engineering, and smart design has made us a trusted partner for clients ranging from individual professionals to large organizations that rely on durable, reliable protection for their most critical equipment.

We are seeking a Senior Engineering Lead to guide a small team of five engineers at our Patterson, NJ facility. This is an excellent fit for an engineer who blends leadership ability with hands-on technical work. The Senior Engineering Lead will oversee the full lifecycle of design projects—whether focused on protective foam or general engineered solutions—ensuring all work meets strict functional and quality standards. This role requires someone who can manage using metrics and KPIs, maintain strong customer alignment, and still roll up their sleeves on complex designs. While experience with protective packaging is a plus, we welcome engineers from broader mechanical, product development, or 3D design backgrounds who bring strong technical judgment and the ability to lead, mentor, and elevate a team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of five engineers, providing clear direction, mentorship, and performance feedback while fostering a collaborative, metrics-driven culture.
  • Oversee end-to-end engineering and design workflows, from customer requirements to final approval.
  • Review, refine, and approve engineering designs to ensure accuracy, functionality, quality, and adherence to client needs.
  • Work directly with key customers and internal teams to understand requirements, constraints, and expectations, translating them into practical, efficient solutions.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of materials, industry standards, and best practices in protective design and general engineered systems.
  • Identify opportunities to improve design processes, increase efficiency, implement KPIs, and standardize methods across the team.
  • Participate in project planning, helping allocate resources, balance workload, and drive on-time delivery.
  • Support the growth of the team through coaching, training, and ongoing skill development.
  • Provide technical expertise in CAD and other engineering tools, especially when tackling complex challenges.

Qualifications

  •  Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, Packaging Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Experience in protective packaging, product design, mechanical systems, or related fields is strongly preferred, though engineers with strong core design skills from other domains will be considered.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, or manage an engineering team; experience using metrics and KPIs to drive performance is a plus.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD or equivalent design software.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance creativity and practicality.
  • Excellent communication skills and comfort working directly with customers and cross-functional teams.
  • Highly organized, capable of managing multiple concurrent projects without sacrificing quality.
  • Willingness to relocate to Patterson, NJ; relocation support is available.
  • Confident leadership presence and the ability to inspire trust and collaboration within a small team.

Compensation

  • Base salary of $175,000 per year.
  • Relocation support available for candidates moving to Patterson, NJ.
