Job Description

This newly created position on the gift accounting team will serve as the unit lead for all daily gift accounting functions. This role ensures accurate processing, receipting, and reporting of gifts, manages compliance with IRS regulations, and balances strong internal controls with providing customer service to donors and colleagues.Core responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Supervise the gift accounting team: oversee daily workflow of team members, provide constructive and timely performance feedback, handles discipline of employees in accordance with company policy, and partner with HR to recruit, interview, hire, and train new staff.Gift processing and receipting duties including reviewing corrections, approving non-gift batches and corrections, and oversight of year-end receipt summary.Supervise stock and mutual fund transactions and review and sign donor correspondence related to non-cash gifts.Evaluate, document, and test internal controls related to gift accounting functions. Recommend and implement enhancements as needed and report on internal controls to leadership.Coordinate with other foundation teams to appropriately administer funds, test processes, and drive process improvements to maximize automation.

QualificationsEducation & Work Experience

Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or another related field. Advanced degree or professional certification preferred.6 years of experience managing gift or accounts receivable processes.Minimum of 3 years of people management experience.

Desired Skills & Experience

Experience with CRM software (Salesforce preferred) and financial systems.Demonstrated experience with process improvement and leading through change.Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines accurately in a fast-paced environment.Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Must be adaptable, flexible, and self-directed.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn new software.Must adhere to strict confidentiality standards.Creativity, patience, a sense of humor and a belief in our organizational mission of: Aligning donor passion and generosity to advance Iowa State University's land grant ideals.
