Job Description

SLR is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead engineering activities such as design, analysis, simulation, commissioning, and technical advisory for community distributed generation (CDG), utility-scale solar, and energy storage projects. The projects may be located throughout North America and the Caribbean. The primary focus for this role will be on projects in NYISO, PJM and MISO RTO territories. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, enjoys technical challenges, and thrives in a highly collaborative and dynamic environment.

We are SLR Consulting (US), a coast-to-coast team of 500+ advisory, environmental/engineering, and regulatory professionals. We deliver environmental and sustainability services to our clients through the integration of over 30 advisory, technical environmental, and engineering disciplines to help clients address some of their most complex challenges around sustainability. As our new Senior Electrical Engineer, you will play an important role on a team whose work is essential to achieving this goal.

Responsibilities:

  •     Oversee and review all aspects of solar PV and battery energy storage system design, from small rooftop to large utility-scale ground mount projects, ensuring technical accuracy, regulatory compliance, and adherence to SLR and industry standardsMentor Engineering team members, review team deliverables for technical quality and consistency; set and uphold drawing architecture standards and best practices across the team
  •     Provide technical support to internal and external stakeholders across all phases of design, interconnection, and constructionOversee day-to-day project execution; assign tasks, manage workflows, track milestones, and prepare status reports for senior management.
  •     Interface with clients, vendors, utilities, and local authorities to align project requirements and ensure deliverables are met on time and within budgetConduct detailed energy production simulations and modeling for solar PV and storage systems using software tools such as MS Excel, PVSyst, and Helioscope
  •     Perform power system studies including underground ampacity, load flow, protective coordination, short-circuit, grounding, and arc flash analysis using ETAPPrepare and maintain comprehensive project documentation, including feasibility studies, scopes of work, commissioning reports, technical specifications, and RFP responses
  •     Assist Project Leads in prioritizing engineering tasks, managing team resources, and fulfilling administrative duties as neededEnsure project designs comply with relevant codes and standards (e.g., NEC, CEC, IEEE, building and fire code).
  •     Conduct on-site field visits to support design verification, construction, and commissioning activitiesRecommend and implement continuous improvements in design practices, project execution processes, and product performance
  •     Support business development efforts by providing technical input on proposals, estimating engineering scope, and advising on system configurationCollaborate with external engineering consultants and partners to ensure quality assurance and jurisdictional compliance

    Qualifications/Education/Memberships:

    Minimum 8 years of experience in power systems engineering; solar and battery storage experience preferred
  •     Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Systems EngineeringProficient with AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and power system analysis tools (e.g., ETAP, SKM, PSCAD)
  •     Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC)Familiarity with relevant standards such as IEEE 1547, CSA 22.2 No. 107.1, UL 1741, and NFPA 855 is an asset
  •     Licensed Professional Engineer in New York or a state with reciprocity Strong verbal and written communication skills
  •     Legally authorized to work in U.S.Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites
