Job Description

Cytokinetics is a late-stage, specialty cardiovascular biopharmaceutical company focused on discovering, developing and commercializing first-in-class muscle activators and next-in-class muscle inhibitors as potential treatments for debilitating diseases in which cardiac muscle performance is compromised. As the Senior Manager of Accounting at Cytokinetics, you will play a vital role in the company leading critical areas in the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, perform financial statement analysis, and assist the Assistant Controller and Controller with technical accounting issues, SEC reporting and the management of the department. In this leadership position, you will be responsible for developing and mentoring your team, taking ownership over key aspects of the close process, while providing business insights into our financial results.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Manage, train, and develop staff. Establish objectives and assignments and provide ongoing feedback through performance reviews and development plans.

  • Lead and manage a team of accounting professionals responsible for U.S. general ledger activities and certain international close activities.

  • Key player in the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, managing deliverables to ensure the delivery of timely and accurate financial statements in accordance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

  • Lead areas in the month end close cycle, including taking ownership of journal entries, account reconciliations, intercompany consolidation and fluctuation analyses for key components of our financial statements.

  • Leads team in presenting financial results, identifying trends, and providing insights to management.

  • Assist the Assistant Controller and Controller with the management of the accounting department, including work distribution and problem-solving.

  • Lead the integration and maintenance of new and existing accounting systems and processes.

  • Drive close cycle automation and process improvement initiatives intended to condense the close cycle, reduce manual work, and improve consistency and standardization of processes.

  • Review schedules to support SEC filings, audit and other statutory reporting requirements and work with external auditors.

  • Assist management with special projects and tasks.

  • Provide technical accounting expertise and knowledge.

  • Maintain effective internal controls for the financial close processes, ensuring compliance with SOX requirements and mitigating financial risk by monitoring accounting policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS Degree in Accounting, Finance or Economics or equivalent experience

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is preferred

  • 8+ years of relevant experience in industry or at least 5+ years of public accounting experience

  • A positive attitude, personal integrity, discretion and candor; adaptable and flexible

  • Thrive in a high growth, entrepreneurial environment, wearing multiple hats and adjusting priorities as the business evolves

  • Self-starting personality: ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities

  • Proven ability to apply judgment in resolving accounting issues or in proposing recommendations

  • Outstanding Microsoft Office skills, especially strong Excel skills

  • Excellent detail orientation, including ability to effectively operate in high volume transactional environment- highly self-motivated and demonstrated ability to grow into additional complexity and responsibility

Pay Range:

In the U.S., the hiring pay range for fully qualified candidates is $171,900-$200,550 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.
