About MGT Insurance
MGT is the first AI-driven, neo-insurer focused on evolving commercial P&C insurance for the brokers and small business owners. By combining the expertise of industry veterans with state-of-the-art technology, we are ushering in the next evolution of commercial insurance and working to move the industry forward through the use of modern technology, better processes, and a rock-star team. We seek visionary leaders who thrive in dynamic, entrepreneurial settings, and excel in autonomous roles.
About the Role
We’re hiring a Senior Manager, Reinsurance Accounting to lead our reinsurance accounting function and oversee key insurance finance processes as we scale. This role will be an individual contributor role and partner closely with Finance leadership, Underwriting, Claims, and data science. You’ll ensure accurate GAAP and statutory reporting, manage day-to-day efforts, and help modernize how reinsurance and insurance accounting integrates with our core systems.
What you'll do
- Reinsurance Accounting Leadership: Direct all aspects of ceded and assumed reinsurance accounting, including treaty and facultative processing, recoverables, payables, settlements, and Schedule F reporting.
- General Ledger Oversight: Manage reinsurance accounting operations in EAS and NetSuite general ledgers; oversee journal entries, reconciliations, roll-forwards, and reporting both externally to our reinsurance partners and internally to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Reinsurance Systems: Oversee use of reinsurance accounting software for bordereaux, statement reconciliations, and recoverable tracking; partner with Tech to optimize integrations with the GL.
- Close & Reporting: Drive an efficient, accurate monthly/quarterly close process; review reconciliations and journal entries
- Regulatory & Audit: Support GAAP and statutory financial reporting, including NAIC filings; serve as a primary contact for auditors and reinsurers.
- Team Development: Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Process Improvement: Lead initiatives to automate and streamline reinsurance workflows, enhance data integrity, and strengthen internal controls.
About the Finance team
The Finance team at MGT Insurance serves as the backbone of our rapidly scaling operations. We safeguard financial integrity, ensure compliance with GAAP and statutory requirements, and deliver insights that drive strategic decisions. As a lean but growing group, we balance rigorous financial control with a builder’s mindset—constantly seeking ways to innovate in insurance finance.
What you bring
- Experience: 8–12+ years of progressive accounting experience in commercial P&C insurance/reinsurance, with at least 3–5 years in a management role.
- Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of reinsurance accounting (treaty & facultative, ceded & assumed).
- Hands-on EAS general ledger experience.
- Strong proficiency with reinsurance accounting software (e.g., Sapiens, SICS, SAP-FS-RI, or similar).
- Solid grasp of GAAP and statutory/NAIC reporting requirements.
- Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead teams, build processes, and partner effectively across Underwriting, and FP&A.
- Analytical & Communication Skills: Strong problem-solving ability, attention to detail, and excellent written and verbal communication.
- Mindset: Entrepreneurial, process-improvement focused, and energized by building at scale.
