Job Description

Senior Motor Design Engineer - Electromagnetics

Radiant is seeking a talented Senior Electric Motor Design Engineer to design and develop an alternator for the nuclear-driven, high-speed power generator. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the design and analysis of active parts within the high-speed generator. You will collaborate with engineers cross-functionally and partner closely with the turbomachinery team developing a system for converting mechanical energy to electrical to be delivered to customers safely and reliably. The successful candidate will own active part design of generators, along with performing analysis, simulation, and component selection. You'll make a big impact in commercializing Earth's first mass-produced nuclear reactors and power remote areas and critical infrastructure with abundant clean energy.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Electromagnetic design of 1MW, high speed alternator
  • Development and qualification testing of new electric products.
  • Interface with outside vendors manufacturing electric components.
  • Perform hands-on assembly, rapid prototyping, and integration of high voltage electric motors and generators.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • B.S. in electrical engineering specializing in electric motors
  • 5+ years of design experience designing high-voltage and high-power electric motors and/or generators.
  • Fundamental knowledge of permanent magnet electric motors.
  • Proficiency in electromagnetic design and analysis software like Ansys Motor CAD and Maxwell or equivalent
  • Experience in design, manufacturing, and assembly and test of electric motors.

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of generator design.
  • M.S in Electrical Engineering specializing in electric motors.
  • Knowledge of motor control systems including SVM.
  • Proficiency in dynamic simulations and interaction with power electronics.
  • Great team player with one team mentality working with turbomachinery, power electronics, thermal, packaging and software teams.

Additional Requirements

  • Must be willing to work extended hours and weekends as necessary to accomplish our mission.
  • Must work 100% onsite at El Segundo HQ.
