About the Team and Role:
eBay's Cloud organization is building the next-generation, software-defined infrastructure that powers one of the world's largest e-commerce platforms. Our mission is to deliver a self-healing, elastically scalable, and highly available foundation that enables every eBay experience-from seller storefronts to search and payments.
The Cloud Security team designs, builds, and operates the core security services that protect eBay's global infrastructure while enabling developer velocity. Our philosophy: security by design, security that feels invisible. We harness zero-trust principles, layered defenses, and intelligent automation to safeguard millions of users worldwide.
As a Senior Software Engineer, you will lead the design and development of cloud-native security services used by thousands of internal microservices and millions of customers. You will set technical standards, own projects end-to-end, and influence architectural decisions across teams-while mentoring others and setting the standard for security engineering at eBay.
What you will accomplish:
Build scalable, secure services with clean, maintainable code in Go, C++, or Java
Own a functional area, from design to launch and production observability
Implement and evolve security services for Authentication, Authorization, IAM, and integration with identity systems (e.g., OAuth, LDAP)
Drive adoption of secure coding practices, engineering excellence, and high availability standards
Collaborate across teams, communicate risks and trade-offs and influence technical direction
What you will bring:
Masters Degree in Computer science or related field with at least 6 years of relevant experience or Bachelors Degree in Computer science or related field with at least 8 years of relevant experience
Strong software development background with mastery of at least one programming language (Go, C++, or Java)
Solid understanding of OIDC, OAuth and related authentication/authorization standards
Hands-on experience with LDAP and identity management systems
Strong knowledge of relational databases (RDBMS) and object databases
Good understanding of Kubernetes and cloud-native environments
Experience building or operating distributed systems at scale
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with SAML, FIDO, RBAC/PBAC
Experience with Kubernetes internals (CRDs, admission webhooks, operators), Istio, or Envoy
Knowledge of secure SDLC, threat modeling, compliance frameworks (PCI-DSS, SOC 2)
Contributions to open-source or industry security initiatives

The applicable base pay range for this position is dependent on work location. The base pay range in the San Francisco Bay Area, New York City Metro and Seattle Metro is expected in the range below:
$166,400 - $222,100
The base pay range for all other U.S. work locations is expected in the range below:
$115,200 - $199,700
Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
