Job Description

The Senior Tax Accountant will be an integral part of the tax department, responsible for ensuring taxation compliance for the United States and Canada.  The Senior Tax Accountant will prepare, review and maintain financial records and perform a variety of financial activities.

Reports to

Senior Manager of Tax and Partner Accounting, North America

Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Annual partnership income tax returns.

    • Preparation of book-to-tax calculations, partner allocations, state apportionment and related workpapers.

    • Assist with preparation of transfer pricing documentation in coordination with global transfer pricing team.

    • Update nexus analysis to determine new filing requirements.

    • Calculate quarterly tax estimates, and coordinate with Tax Accountant to make payments for each jurisdiction.

    • Maintain partner tax capital balances.

    • Coordinate with and review work product of external tax accountants including tax depreciation, tax returns and Schedule K-1s prepared by external tax accountants.
       

  • Partner accounting and compensation.

    • Assist with preparation of final and budgeted reconciliation statements on a fiscal year basis.

    • Assist with preparation of illustrative reconciliation statements for joiners and leavers.

    • Track and maintain partner distribution payments, including benefit payments, tax payments, and draws.

    • Maintain partner book capital balances and assist with administering the capital loan program with bank partners. 

    • Assist with letters of credit for partners.

  • Correspondence, analysis and research.

    • Research partnership tax issues associated with changing tax laws and Federal, state, local and global filing requirements. 

    • Manage Federal, state and local jurisdiction tax audits and notices, and maintain open issues tracker.

    • Communicate and coordinate with partners to obtain composite elections and certificate of residency information.    

    • Forecast cash flow; prepare budget and variance analysis for tax and partner capital accounts and other accounts as necessary.

    • Reconcile tax and partner general ledger accounts.

    • Engage with global partnership accounting and tax teams to ensure alignment.

  • General.

    • Review and/or prepare other tax filings including gross receipts returns, sales/use tax returns, property tax returns and other returns.

    • Assist with retirement plan audit.

    • Assist management with special projects and other responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field required.

  • 4+ years of experience in tax accounting and tax compliance required, with knowledge of partnership tax, individual tax and international tax.

  • CPA designation preferred.

  • Advanced proficiency within Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office products.

  • Experience with Thomson Reuters 3E or similar GL system is preferred.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to handle and maintain confidential information.

  • Critical thinker, detail oriented with strong organizational skills and ability to take initiative and work independently, while also contributing to a positive, collaborative team environment.

  • Law firm or professional services industry experience is preferred.
