SETSS (Special Education Teacher) | Part-Time | Manhattan, NY | School Day or After School
Overview/Impact:
Are you a passionate Special Education Teacher ready to make a significant impact on students' academic achievement in Manhattan? Knowledge Road is seeking a part-time Special Education Teacher (SETSS) to join our team and deliver critical support to students in NYC Department of Education (DOE) schools. With a major city-wide shortage of qualified special education professionals, your skills are urgently needed to ensure students receive the personalized instruction they deserve. This is an opportunity to work directly with students who need specialized academic support, helping them reach their educational goals through focused intervention and evidence-based instruction.
As a SETSS provider with Knowledge Road, you will provide individualized and small-group instruction in school settings, working closely with families and school teams to promote student progress and academic achievement.
Responsibilities:
As a Special Education Teacher (SETSS) with Knowledge Road, you will:
Provide high-quality, individualized, and small-group instruction to students with disabilities, in accordance with their Individualized Education Service Programs (IESP).
Ensure fulfillment of each student's weekly IESP mandates and maintain an intervention schedule coordinated with the school timetable.
Create and submit quarterly progress reports and maintain bi-weekly family communication with clear updates on progress and upcoming steps.
Record service delivery and student performance in Knowledge Road's system with accurate and timely documentation.
Develop and execute engaging and effective lesson plans that address the specific academic, social, and emotional needs of each student.
Work with parents, teachers, and other school staff to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment for your students.
Monitor and assess student progress, offering regular updates to families and school-based teams.
Participate in IESP meetings as needed, offering expert insights and recommendations to promote student success.
Qualifications
NYS Students with Disabilities (B-2, 1-6, 7-12, or All Grades) or NYS Literacy Specialist.
Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
Must not have been employed by NYC DOE within the last 12 months.
Experience teaching Math and ELA.
Reliable transportation.
NYC DOE fingerprinting status/approval is required, or a willingness to obtain them before starting.

Schedule & Location:
This is a part-time position with a flexible schedule during school-day hours or after school, aligned with the NYC DOE calendar. Services will be provided on-site at a school in Manhattan or at the child's home, with assignments based on student needs. Hours/week are based on IESP mandates; caseload may vary by assignment. Typically ~5-15 hours/week, depending on placements, with additional cases and hours available when coordinating with our recruitment team.
Compensation:
$60 - $100 per hour (1099). Rate differs by group size and assignment. Individual IESP sessions typically begin at $60/hr.
