Job Description

The Shipping Clerk position works closely with the packaging and warehouse staff in implementing the production plan, in all aspects of shipping and receiving and in the related documentation including railroad planning. They act as a resource for any of the related computer systems, such as ADC, SAP, LIMS and Expeditor. Responsible for maintaining accurate product, pallets and packaging materials inventory, and coordinates the purchasing of materials and supplies.

The principal accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinates shipments based on sales plans, distribution needs and factory loading operations.

  • Initiates and completes all production, shipping and inventory related SAP, ADC and other system related transactions and required documentation and reporting.

  • Activates and confirms production orders, as well as inactivating for bulk sugar and packaged materials. Issues finished goods to a production order for bulk sugar, makes corrections as needed.

  • Blocks/Holds (packaged) sugar by order or lot, closes out a production lot on a partial pallet, combines multiple packaged product lots on a single pallet

  • Creates or deletes a pallet, creates pallet labels and disposes of questionable pallets of packaged sugar.

  • Enters car(s) loaded by shift (bulk sugar). Manually enters and/or scans security seal serial numbers.

  • Prepares USC daily rail activities report.

  • Prepares and faxes a daily report for the BNSF/M&N on ACS's outbound. Communicates with local train crew to set-up switch time. Prepares an inbound daily report on the railcars being spotted and loaded.

  • Accesses and reviews the Yard Status Report including the BNSF inbound report. Determines railcars to be loaded (by priority number) and receives railcars into the yard. Minimizes demurrage by monitoring BNSF web site and dispute any inappropriate charges.

  • Accesses and reviews customer specifications. Ensures shipments meet customer specification.

  • Research shipping customer complaints and resolves issues within established guidelines.

  • Prepares a Deviation/Incident Report.

  • Coordinates daily loading paperwork for the crew. Works with day warehouse staff on fulfilling orders.

  • Compares and analyzes the "actual" packaging and loading results with the "planned", and resolves any issues and makes adjustments to "plan" as needed and coordinates with USC.

  • Enters all re-melt against the residual already entered for the day in SAP, including government residual.

  • Prepares ADC reports to use in reconciliation between ADC inventory and actual floor counts, as well as reconciling and maintaining accurate inventories by product and by-products, packaging materials and supply inventory.

  • Performs shipping, inventory activities related to molasses and pellets, via truck and bulk railcar.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • Two-year business/accounting related degree with strong computer skills and business math abilities in converting fractions, hundredweights and metrics/English measurements, or equivalent experience.

  • Previous shipping, logistical, warehousing and inventory management experience is preferred.

  • An understanding of product and customer specifications is essential as well as knowledge of QA/QC, SQF, GMP HACCP and regulatory directives.

  • This position must be able to multi-task under time pressures, analyze and problem solve issues and have the ability to organize and clearly communicate issues to others and work with all levels of employees and customers to resolve issues and improve productivity.

  • This position requires an understanding of safety requirements in warehousing and packaging areas.

Compensation Range:

$26.67 - $26.67 /hr
