Summary

This role in Equipment Manufacturing will work as part of the Inventory group to receive, stock, pick, and ship machine components and raw materials to supply both our internal operations and external customers. This person will regularly use computer systems and equipment commonly including forklifts, ladders/rolling platforms, manual/assisted material handling equipment, miter saw, cordless drills, among other tools. This person must function well in a team environment using good communication skills and be self-motivated to remain productive while balancing concurrent responsibilities.

Essential Functions

  • Perform all duties with safety as the top priority
  • Performs material handling, shipping, receiving, inventory control, and clerical duties
  • Operates material handling equipment daily – prior fork lift experience required. Must become certified to use standup forklifts
  • Picks and issues parts to shop orders for Production, Maintenance, Machining, and Assembly as well as picking and shipping parts for customer orders
  • Prepares product for shipment to customers including packaging and crating of product and preparing shipping documentation
  • Prepare product for shipping to and receiving product from external process vendors, assist Buyer by processing material returns to vendors
  • Coordinates and arranges shipping for domestic and international orders with or without the assistance of a 3PL/freight forwarder or freight broker.
  • Accurately receives, processes, and stocks product for ensuring optimal inventory control
  • Participates in departmental Lean and Continuous Improvement events
  • Supports inventory cycle count audit process
  • Works closely with planning team, communicating inventory discrepancies and assists in the investigation and problem solving of inventory issues
  • Daily perform routine data entry, answer telephones, instant messages, and answer emails
  • Other duties as assigned

Skill Sets/Abilities/Attributes

  • Must be safety-minded and unafraid to address potential safety hazards with individuals and management
  • Highly organized and detail oriented
  • Familiar with inventory management or manufacturing best practices
  • Manage and prioritize concurrent tasks, deadlines, and responsibilities
  • Able to conduct oneself with professionalism in any situation
  • Have a strong work ethic and be a team player, ready to help others within and outside of the department
  • Able to provide clear and effective written and verbal communication
  • Must be a strong and methodical problem-solver and able to suggest and solicit potential solutions when discussing problems with peers and management
  • Must be able to read a ruler and a tape measure accurately to 1/8th of an inch
  • Must be able to perform basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, & division without the use of a calculator
  • Must have experience operating inventory management/ERP software and able to comfortably use common software like MS Word, MS Excel, & MS Outlook to perform daily activities
  • Ability to read engineering prints and understand measurements and tolerances is a plus

Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • 2+ years shipping, receiving, material handling, or inventory control related experience
  • Previous forklift certification
  • Experience with BPCS is a plus
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment is a plus
  • Lean and/or Continuous Improvement training is a plus
  • Experience as a team lead is a plus

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

  • Must have the ability to read, write, speak, and understand English, plus have adequate hearing and visual acuity
  • Must be able to understand both written and spoken instruction
  • The Shipping/Receiving Clerk role primarily works in a warehouse environment, with regular trips outside throughout the year to load and unload materials from a rail dock.
  • Role requires the ability to stand or walk for long periods, up to 70% to 85% of the workday with intermittent changes in activity
  • Role requires the ability to reach above and below the shoulders, twist at waist, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, and climb stairs
  • Designated areas have strictly enforced PPE requirements
  • Frequently, it will be necessary to lift up to 35 LBS, requiring proper lifting techniques and/or material handling equipment and PPE.
