Job Summary:

A Recreation Arts Instructor/Skate Instructor will instruct participants on learning how to ice skate. This position will report to the General Manager of Special Facilities. Position hours will be determined by program schedule and needs of the program, which may involve evening or weekend hours, not to exceed 30 hours per week.

Incumbents receive general supervision from the Learn to Skate Program Coordinator. Work is performed in an ice rink setting which is a cold environment. The incumbent will be required to teach both children and adults, demonstrating and discussing ice skating skills and techniques.

Essential Functions:

The following examples illustrate the work performed in the positions of this class may require some or all of these examples depending on the scope of work and where the individual is assigned within the agency. This list is not inclusive and may require related duties not listed, if necessary, to accomplish the work of the agency.

  • Teach ice skating skills based on the Learn to Skate USA curriculum to children and adults.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 18 years of age or older.
  • Graduated from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certificate.
  • Must become a coaching member of the Learn to Skate USA program.
  • Must provide skating and coaching history.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Must know and understand the Learn to Skate USA curriculum.
  • Be comfortable and enthusiastic working with children and adults.
  • Be understanding that Learn to Skate participants learn differently, so must be flexible in teaching style.

Background Check

Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed.

Probation

All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six-month probation.
