Position Summary
The Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) provides evidence-based individual and group therapy to clients aged 21 and older struggling with substance use and alcohol dependence, as well as support to their families and collateral contacts. Based in the Midtown Treatment and Research, this role combines direct clinical care with program development, training, outreach, and administrative responsibilities to support and grow our substance abuse treatment program.
Job Responsibilities
- Provides counseling to patients and their families to assist in coping with illness, treatment, bereavement, and/or other psychosocial needs. Maintains follow up of these patients and families as appropriate.
- Collaborates with physicians and staff regarding patient situations. Communicates relevant information by documenting in medical records according to established procedures and by verbal communications as appropriate to provide continuity of care.
- Assists with staff inservices on patient/customer service issues as needed.
- Participates, as appropriate, in professional, educational, and supportive seminars, events and community efforts.
- Provides assistance to patients and families in arranging needed care services at home, medical setting, or hospice.
- Stays up to date with government, professional, and institutional regulations, legislation, policies, and standards of care in social work in general. Stays up to date with changes in social work practice and the social work/psychosocial literature.
- Works with clinicians to identify psychiatric needs and refer to psychiatry as needed.
Education
- Master's Degree in related field
Experience
- Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited institution.
- Current New York State LCSW licensure required.
- Minimum of 2 years' clinical experience in substance abuse counseling with adult clients.
- Experience with evidence-based modalities (e.g., Motivational Interviewing, CBT, trauma-informed care) strongly preferred.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Excellent organizational and time management skills and work effectively within an multidisciplinary team.
Licenses and Certifications
- Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) by the State of New York
- Candidates with LMSW may be considered if role will be supervised by a licensed psychologist.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands
- Full-time, hybrid position at Midtown Treatment Center.
- Regular participation in clinical rounds, trainings, and program meetings.
