Job Description

Starting Rate: $35 - $40 /hour based on experience Environment: Hospital and Homebound Services Teaching Specialty: Special Education, Intensive Needs and Behavioral Health

We are seeking a dedicated Part-Time Special Education Teacher to provide individualized academic and behavioral support for a student(s) with intensive needs in a homebound setting. When not working in the homebound environment, you will also have the opportunity to deliver targeted interventions within our school program.

This is a unique role that allows you to make a meaningful impact by delivering tailored instruction, leveraging innovative curriculum resources, and developing comprehensive lesson plans and schedules aligned with the student's physical, emotional, and educational needs, as well as state and district standards.

‖ Responsibilities Include:

  • Delivering targeted, one-on-one instruction designed to meet individualized education plan (IEP) goals and objectives in a hospital and/or homebound environment.

  • Adapting and modifying curricular content, instructional strategies, and materials to accommodate the student's learning style, abilities, and needs.

  • Utilizing innovative and engaging teaching methods and resources, including technology and educational software, to maintain student engagement and progress.

  • Developing and implementing detailed daily lesson plans aligned with state standards, IEP goals, and the student's individual learning needs.

  • Establishing and maintaining a supportive and respectful learning environment built on trust, fairness, and clear expectations.

  • Modeling and reinforcing positive behavior interventions and supports (PBIS) to foster social development, personal accountability, and constructive interactions.

  • Collaborating with families, clinical staff, and school teams to implement consistent behavioral strategies and interventions.

  • Providing guidance and coaching on self-regulation, communication, and adaptive skills to promote student independence.

  • Working closely with the student's family, hospital staff, and educational team to ensure a cohesive and effective learning experience.

  • Maintaining open, proactive communication with all stakeholders to support the student's holistic growth.

  • Collaborating with school-based teams to ensure instruction and interventions align with the student's IEP and medical considerations.

  • Monitoring, tracking, and documenting student progress on academic, behavioral, and communication goals.

  • Preparing and maintaining accurate records, including lesson plans, progress reports, and IEP documentation.

  • Participating in IEP meetings and providing data-driven insights to guide ongoing instructional planning.

  • Staying informed on best practices and research-based strategies in special education to enhance teaching effectiveness.

  • Responding constructively to feedback from observations and evaluations, embracing opportunities for continuous improvement.

  • Maintaining a professional, organized, and welcoming instructional environment in compliance with program and district standards.

  • Contributing positively to the broader school and program community, supporting a culture of collaboration and innovation.

‖ Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in education, special education or a closely related field of study.
  • Licensed currently or in the process of obtaining a Texas state teaching credential.
  • Licensed currently or in the process of obtaining a special education instruction credential (moderate-severe).
  • Prior experience working with curriculum development, differentiation and instruction, preferably in an alternative, special education and/or behavioral health program setting.
  • Prior experience and/or knowledge in special education services and compliance, particularly for students with autism related disabilities, emotional disturbance and/or challenging behaviors.
  • Prior experience and/or highly knowledgeable in working with students with individualized education plans (IEP's).
  • Proven success in developing and implementing effective education plans for students with diverse needs.
  • Proficiency in providing motivation and having critical conversations with students that help move them toward realistic goals.
  • Ability to think and act quickly and calmly in an emergency and make independent decisions.
  • Advanced oral and written communication, organization, conflict resolution, multitasking, problem solving, and decision-making ability.
  • Knowledge of relevant technology including experience with instructional technology, Microsoft Office Suite, database entry and basic office equipment.
