Astemo Americas, Inc. is seeking an experienced Suspension Engineer to join our Advanced Chassis Team. This role focuses on the design, planning, testing, and coordination of new product development related to shock absorber systems, including both passive and semi-active technologies. The successful candidate will serve as the primary liaison between internal departments, suppliers, and OEM customers throughout the development process.
Primary Responsibilities:
Lead the development of new damper technologies and components from concept through prototype and into production, following the full automotive project lifecycle.
Define system requirements and manage development timelines to meet key project milestones.
Create, document, and approve engineering release materials, including 2D drawings, 3D models, DFMEAs, and DVP&Rs.
Conduct design calculations, perform GD&T, and execute tolerance stack-up analyses.
Organize and facilitate design reviews with cross-functional teams and OEM counterparts.
Oversee prototyping and testing activities; analyze results and refine designs as necessary.
Collaborate with engineers to establish initial concepts for new suspension components.
Work closely with manufacturing and quality teams to ensure design feasibility, cost-efficiency, and weight targets.
Partner with simulation engineers to validate and verify designs virtually.
Research and explore new materials and manufacturing processes to improve performance and efficiency.
Additional Responsibilities:
Participate in occasional global meetings outside standard business hours.
Take ownership of assigned deliverables with minimal supervision.
Promote teamwork and maintain positive working relationships across departments.
Communicate findings and recommendations effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Engage with other Chassis Business Units (e.g., brakes, steering, software) to support system integration.
Demonstrate initiative and adaptability, including the ability to work remotely when required.
Experience in program management or project planning is a plus.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is required.
Master’s degree is preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the automotive industry, preferably within suspension or shock absorber systems.
Prior experience working with OEMs or Tier-1 suppliers is advantageous.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling (CATIA and 3DEXPERIENCE preferred) and 2D drafting.
Strong foundation in solid mechanics, materials science, fluid dynamics, mechanical design, and manufacturing processes.
Familiarity with GD&T and design for manufacturability and assembly (DFMA).
Functional knowledge of CFD, vehicle dynamics, and mechanical structural analysis.
Skilled in CAE/FEA tools (e.g., ANSYS, SolidWorks FEA) and statistical tools (e.g., Minitab).
Ability to track and document engineering changes effectively.
Experience working with specialized materials for automotive or other high-performance applications.
Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have):
Hands-on experience with shocks, struts, and suspension systems.
Working knowledge of ASME Y14.5-2009 and ISO dimensioning and tolerancing standards.
Six Sigma Green Belt certification.
Familiarity with advanced tolerance stack-up analysis tools (e.g., 3DCS).

Occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
Available to work 40–50 hours per week.
Travel Requirements:
Domestic and international travel as needed to support global development and coordination.
