Description

The Senior Print Finisher Technician is responsible for leading and executing high-quality finishing processes that ensure all print projects meet client expectations and organizational standards. This role requires advanced technical expertise in bindery and finishing operations, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to mentor and guide junior staff. The Senior Print Finisher Technician plays a crucial role in maintaining production efficiency, ensuring equipment performance, and achieving overall workflow excellence.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot finishing equipment, including cutters, folders, stitchers, binders, laminators, and specialty finishing machines.
  • Review job tickets to ensure accuracy, quality standards, and timely completion of all assigned projects.
  • Collaborate with production managers, designers, and press operators to anticipate finishing needs and resolve potential challenges.
  • Lead quality control checks to verify alignment, trimming accuracy, binding integrity, and overall product presentation.
  • Train, mentor, and support junior technicians in best practices, equipment operation, and safety compliance.
  • Monitor inventory of finishing supplies and coordinate with purchasing to maintain optimal stock levels.
  • Ensure compliance with all workplace safety guidelines and proactively address hazards.
  • Drives the highest productivity levels through the goal/expectation setting of minimal outputs (with units per hour reference).
  • Works closely with all functional areas as necessary to ensure that the production plan fulfills customers' productivity and quality requirements.
  • Keeps the necessary managers and supervisors informed of any changes or urgencies in project requests or status that may be compromised.
  • Able and willing to work overtime hours, longer days and weekends when needed.

Requirements

  • Experience with Horizon BQ470 and Challenger CMT130 a strong plus.
  • Display knowledge of equipment and processes in our bindery and finishing operations.
  • Driven in a way that promotes professional excellence.
  • Ability to operate basic production floor equipment, i.e. pallet jacks, scales, etc.
  • Ability to learn the internal job system, data collection, reading job tickets, schedules, POs, and other specific requirements to the company's processes.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS:

  • On-time completion of finishing projects (target: 98%+).
  • Reduction of finishing errors and rework (target:
  • Successful training and skill development of junior team members.
  • Equipment uptime and preventative maintenance compliance.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 10 years of experience, preferably in perfect-bound book production.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing, workflow optimization, or continuous improvement practices.
  • Experienced in a safety-first environment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Able to be on your feet most of the day.
  • Able to lift up to 50-pound packages.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

  • Experience in a commercial print, marketing, or media production environment.
  • Basic mechanical repair skills for equipment adjustments and preventative maintenance.
  • Work in a climate-controlled environment
  • Machinery noise is continual
  • Overtime as needed

Salary Description

$20.00 - $23.00/hr DOE
