Job Description
The Sr Business Intelligence Analyst / Data Governance provides support to members of the organization, including Company management, through the execution of various regular and ad hoc reports, dashboards and data analysis. The position will play a key role in establishing, maintaining and promoting data integrity, quality, and governance standards across the organization. The individual will actively participate in data governance and data strategy initiatives. They will possess an understanding of the business needs for data as well as the value of trustworthy data. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Creates requested and regular ad hoc reports using warehouse data.
Performs research on data projects intended to improve risk selection, claims settlements, or general financial improvement of the Company.
Leads the effort to gather business requirements for reports / dashboards development to support business decisions.
Participates in Data Governance and Data Strategy initiatives. Work closely with IT and business units to develop and implement data governance policies and procedures. Ensure data governance requirements are met in data systems and platforms.
Partners with business units to define and document data definitions, data catalog, ownership, and usage standards.
Serves as a liaison between the business users and IT technical teams to translate business data needs into actionable solutions.
Collaborates with IT and business teams to improve data lineage, cataloging and metadata documentation.
Leads efforts to identify and remediate data quality issues, inconsistencies and gaps.
Provides training and support to business users on data governance practices.
Serves as a data steward and key stakeholder in enforcing data governance policies and procedures.
Performs data audits on internal company data to ensure that coding is accurate. Investigates any quality problems to determine the cause.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- BS/BA degree in Computer Science, Mathematics or related course of study
- At least 5+ years of relevant data analysis / data governance experience
- Strong computer skills including familiarity with advanced functions in Excel (pivot tables, conditional logic etc.) and familiarity in SQL, data cataloging tools, Cognos, Power BI and Tableau. Experienced in querying relational databases

- Ability to communicate effectively with various audiences including IT developers, technicians, business analysts, claims, underwriting and marketing personnel
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. The individual must be able to effectively and clearly communicate with individuals at all levels of our Company. Superior group presentation skills and experience is required.
REASONING ABILITY
The position requires the individual to apply common sense, understanding, reasoning and sound educated judgment in making recommendations and decisions.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Insurance designations and certifications within the property / casualty insurance industry are encouraged but not required.
