Summary

The Attorney at AAON will provide legal counsel and support across a broad range of corporate, commercial, and regulatory matters. This role ensures compliance with applicable laws and mitigates legal risks while supporting business operations and strategic initiatives. The ideal candidate will work closely with internal departments, external counsel, and regulatory bodies to protect the company's interests and facilitate informed decision-making.

Primary Duties

The Attorney will serve as a key legal advisor to AAON's leadership and operational teams, offering guidance on contracts, compliance, employment law, intellectual property, and corporate governance. This role requires a proactive approach to identifying legal risks and implementing strategies to mitigate them. The Attorney will also manage litigation, oversee regulatory filings, and

support mergers, acquisitions, and other strategic transactions.

Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of contracts, including vendor, customer, and licensing agreements.

  • Provide legal advice on employment matters, including hiring practices, terminations, and workplace policies.

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws, including OSHA, EPA, and other HVAC industry regulations.

  • Manage and coordinate external counsel on litigation and specialized legal matters.

  • Support intellectual property protection, including trademarks, patents, and trade secrets.

  • Advise on corporate governance, board matters, and internal policies.

  • Assist with legal aspects of mergers, acquisitions, and other corporate transactions.

  • Conduct legal training for internal teams on compliance and risk management.

  • Monitor changes in laws and regulations affecting the HVAC and manufacturing sectors.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active license to practice law in Oklahoma or ability to obtain licensure promptly, or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background. Preferred: Experience in manufacturing, HVAC, or industrial sectors; certification in compliance or corporate law.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of contract law, employment law, and regulatory compliance.

  • Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently in a fast-paced environment.

  • Familiarity with legal issues specific to manufacturing and HVAC industries.

  • Proficiency in legal research tools and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • High ethical standards and sound judgment in decision-making, or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.

Essential Mental and Physical Functions:

  • This role requires strong cognitive abilities, including critical thinking, attention to detail, and problem-solving.

  • The Attorney must be able to communicate complex legal concepts clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.

  • The position involves frequent use of computers and standard office equipment.

Essential functions include:

  • Sitting for extended periods.

  • Reading and interpreting legal documents.

  • Conducting meetings and presentations.

  • Managing deadlines and high-pressure situations.

Work Environment:

The Attorney will primarily work in an office environment at AAON's corporate headquarters in Tulsa, OK, with occasional travel to manufacturing sites or external meetings. The role may involve extended hours during critical projects or legal proceedings. The work environment is collaborative, fast-paced, and aligned with AAON's commitment to innovation and operational excellence in the HVAC industry.
