About The Team

The Billing Platform team at GEICO oversees the tools, infrastructure, data, reporting, analytics, and services essential for delivering seamless billing experiences to internal users, end customers, and partners. Our billing platform functions as the backbone for managing financial transactions and customer interactions, enhancing efficiency, accuracy, and customer satisfaction while supporting strategic growth and ensuring compliance.

What you will do

We are seeking a lead SRE Software Engineer with extensive experience in designing, building, and maintaining large-scale applications and distributed systems.

You will become an integral part of a team dedicated to managing GEICO's core billing platform. This platform includes a comprehensive array of components such as a core billing engine, invoicing system, commissions management, collections, payment processing, CRM integration, subscription management, credit control and dunning management, along with reporting and analytics.

  • In this role, you will play a pivotal role in re-architecting our platform from the ground up, focusing on enhancing the scalability and efficiency of our systems.

Responsibilities

  • Scope, design, and build scalable, resilient distributed systems through cross-functional collaboration throughout Software Development Lifecycle

  • Build highly reliable infrastructure and leverage your technical skills to drive towards efficient, reliable and optimal performance solution

  • Automate tasks, test infrastructure, build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and integration with edge data sources for Data Engineering teams to increase developer efficiency and effectiveness

  • Deliver high quality software and establishing best practices and processes across the organization through code reviews, test automation and mentor engineers

  • Define and capture SLA, SLO and SLIs for application components

  • Define SRE practices and implement and deliver the operational excellence

  • Utilize programming languages like Python, C# or other object-oriented languages, SQL, and NoSQL databases, Container Orchestration services including Docker and Kubernetes, and a variety of Azure tools and services

  • Mentor other engineers

  • Consistently share best practices and improve processes within and across teams

Who you are

Minimum Requirements

  • 8+ years of professional, hands-on software development experience

  • Strong experience in architecting and designing large-scale, complex systems

  • Advanced Experience in Hybrid cloud environments with Azure, AWS, or GCP and Linux based on-prem environment

  • Advanced understanding of SRE and DevOps concepts including Azure DevOps framework and tools

  • Advanced Experience working with CI/CD, Azure Just-in-Time, VM Access, Azure Cloud Services, Azure Active Directory, Azure Automation Accounts, Azure subscription and Resource management, Kubernetes/AKS, or similar containerization technology, Docker, Helm, Terraform, GitHub, and IT automation tools like Chef or Ansible

  • Proficient coding skills in Java, Kotlin, Golang, or similar languages, capable of producing high-performance, production-quality code

  • Hands-on experience building platforms from ground up using resiliency patterns, observability, continuous delivery, and infrastructure as code

  • Experience with a wide range of technologies, including SQL and NoSQL databases, Kafka, Spark, Airflow, or their equivalents

  • Proficient in using cloud computing tools throughout the software development lifecycle, with deep expertise in DevOps, observability (Azure Appinsights, Splunk, Grafana) telemetry, and test automation

  • Advanced PowerShell and Python scripting skills

  • Skilled in collaborating across engineering teams and other functions to build alignment, drive decision-making, and communicate transparently

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the financial technology sector, with a focus on billing, payments, subscription management, and financial reporting

  • Cloud architect certifications are preferred

  • Proven track record in designing and implementing highly available and large-scale systems as Devops and SRE lead

Education

  • Bachelor's and/or Master's degree, preferably in CS, or equivalent experience

  • This is a HYBRID role working out of the following offices:

Annual Salary

$110,000.00 - $230,000.00

The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate's work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
