We are seeking an experienced and dynamic State Product Manager to partner with the Field Operations Team to establish, monitor, and influence all aspects of profitability and growth for assigned states. This role involves managing and enhancing existing products through analysis, research, and strategic recommendations related to product design, pricing, underwriting, agency management, distribution, claims, and other processes.
What does a STATE PRODUCT MANAGER do?
- Own P&L performance for assigned states and lead efforts to meet profitability targets.
- Develop and execute pricing strategies using actuarial insights, competitive analysis, and market intelligence.
- Lead the rate change process from strategy to execution, coordinating with Sales, Actuarial, IT, and other teams.
- Identify unprofitable segments and recommend underwriting or agency actions.
- Present state performance and strategic plans to executive leadership.
- Forecast future loss ratios and track key financial metrics.
- Achieve premium and policy count goals by identifying and pursuing growth opportunities.
- Partner with Sales to target desirable segments and support agent engagement.
- Conduct competitive analysis and market research to inform product enhancements.
- Contribute to new state launches and product development initiatives.
- Prepare and submit regulatory filings; respond to Department of Insurance objections.
- Maintain strong relationships with state regulators and ensure compliance with evolving regulations.
- Monitor and resolve compliance issues across assigned states.
- Mentor junior team members and promote alignment across product processes.
- Develop tools and strategies to improve internal workflows and product performance.
- Dive into data to uncover insights and drive innovation.
- Support company-wide initiatives and special projects.
What is required?
Education:
- Bachelor's degree, preferably in Economics, Actuarial, Math, Statistics, Insurance, or a similar field required.
Experience:
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in Product or Actuarial in the P&C Insurance industry.
- Minimum of 4 years of state management experience in P&C; state management for personal auto insurance preferred.
- Experience initiating, developing, and executing complex pricing and product changes, including submitting filings and responding to DOI objections.
- In-depth knowledge of insurance and actuarial concepts, business processes, pricing plans, underwriting rules, and key financial metrics
- Proficiency with SQL, SAS, or Python required.
- Experience with PowerBI and/or Tableau is a plus
- Power BI skills a plus (ability to build reports and analyze data).
- Proficient in MS Office, with advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, data analysis).

- Strong communication skills and emotional intelligence.
- Experience presenting to Senior Leadership and influencing leaders across the organization.
- Ability to balance multiple tasks and occasional travel (5%).
