75% Media production assistance

  • Help students set up audio recording equipment. This includes RODEcasterII soundboards and microphones.
  • Help students with recording processes, these will be taught to you during training.
  • Help students with video recording equipment. This will be done in the video podcast studio and you will be trained on it.
  • Help students with video recording processes, this will be taught during training.
  • Help students with brainstorming ideas for podcasts and other creative measures. This can be done through scheduling individual meetings with students during shifts or drop-in shifts.
  • Make sure students abide by the terms and agreements addressed at the beginning of their time podcasting with our equipment.
  • Advancing personal skills in Adobe After Effects, Adobe Audition and Premiere Pro to keep up with updates and trends in audio/video production.

20% Tech troubleshooting

  • Assist with any audio issues that may arise with our soundboards, mics, or desktops.
  • Assist with any video issues that may arise in our video podcasting studio.

5% Other

  • Assist students with other project questions as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Advanced knowledge of Adobe Audition, Adobe Premiere Pro, and Adobe Photoshop.
  • Knowledge of recording technology (desktops, soundboards, cameras).
  • Willingness to learn podcasting and video podcasting practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expert knowledge of Adobe Audition, Adobe Premiere Pro, and Adobe Photoshop.
  • Basic to Intermediate knowledge of Adobe After Effects.
  • Knowledge of podcasting and video podcasting practices.
  • Current KU School of Journalism Student.

Position Requirements

During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or 2) be pre-enrolled in upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or 3) be enrolled in summer session or 4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).
