Job Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Include, but are not limited, to the following. Other duties may be assigned as required.

  • Establish yourself as a leader of the facility's employee safety efforts by leading by example, providing training (as assisted by RSYC EH&S Staff), showing priority, and stressing accountability.
  • Enforce safety procedures; determine safety issues and discuss with the RSYC EH&S Manager.
  • Execute the production plan as provided by Corporate Supply Chain and the S&OP Process.
  • Maintain balance between inventory, production, and sales by establishing the weekly production schedule.
  • Establish and maintain written production procedures.
  • Ensure that the aforementioned procedures are followed in all areas of the operations.
  • Review quality data to include the physical, chemical, and microbiological aspects of in-process and finished product on a daily basis.
  • Review production logs.
  • May be required to enter production data into the computer to review production ratios and quality results.
  • Make decisions that would adjust parameters of the blending and packaging processes as appropriate.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing levels. Make required personnel decisions as needed within budgetary and executive management parameters.
  • Provide leadership by setting clear direction and providing the appropriate level of motivation, training, and guidance for all staff members.
  • Ensure employee engagement, development, and corrective disciplinary action when required.
  • In conjunction with management, participate in planning of equipment purchase and maintenance, and plan for future equipment needs.
  • Responsible for completing [and verifying] weekly and monthly production reports.
  • Responsible for facility performance vs. standard technical ratios and established budgets.
  • Participate in the creation of and setting of budgets for the next fiscal year.
  • Document and coordinate maintenance work orders, resolve maintenance concerns, track completion of repair jobs.
  • Ensure cleanliness of facility; coordinate and schedule routine and special cleaning of production areas as needed.
  • Conduct daily personal inspection of facility.
  • Ensure that proper operational training is provided to all employees on the blending and packaging process and ensure that all training is effective and recorded.
  • Provide effective reporting to upper management.
  • Serve as member of the Plant HACCP team
  • Special projects may be required and as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible and accountable for the safety of all assigned personnel.
  • The position will manage two direct report subordinates: Lead Blending Supervisor & Blending Operations Coordinator who are responsible for the supervision of approximately 15 employees in the facility.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assisting with interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; evaluating performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A strong employee safety focus is required.
  • Advanced safety, food safety, and production management training is preferred.

  • Strong math, chemistry and microbiology knowledge required.
  • The ability to prioritize, organize and delegate to others while following through to ensure completion of assignments is required.
  • Paperwork demands a high level of attention to detail.
  • Superior communication and "customer" service skills are required.
  • Must have excellent organizational and interpersonal communication skills with proven decision-making ability.
  • Must be familiar with industrial laboratory environment and be able to effectively assimilate large amounts of data.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and e-mail is required.
  • Ability to use or create spreadsheets for scheduling, performance tracking/trending, building reports and for budgeting.
  • Manage multiple projects, priorities and people.
  • Ability to analyze all phases of problems, issues and potential consequences prior to acting.
  • High level of planning and organizational skills.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelors Degree in Biological Sciences, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or Production Management required or a minimum of five years of production supervision in food processing manufacturing.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Proficiency in a second language (French or Spanish) is beneficial, but not required.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Ability to be CPR/First Aid and powered industrial truck certified required
