Supervisor Point of Care - Quality Assurance
Summary
The Point of Care and Quality Assurance Supervisor is responsible for coordinating all point of care testing across inpatient units and hospital-owned clinics. This includes ensuring compliance with manufacturer instructions, CLIA regulations, and Joint Commission standards. The role focuses on maintaining high-quality testing through training, equipment oversight, quality control, and proficiency testing. Additionally, the supervisor oversees the laboratory's quality assurance initiatives, ensuring alignment with performance indicators and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Communicate clearly and respectfully with all stakeholders to support effective operations and information sharing.
- Provide field training on point of care testing for inpatient and outpatient sites.
- Conduct audits and oversight to ensure continuity and accuracy in patient care testing.
- Promote a team-oriented culture by sharing knowledge and supporting colleagues.
- Represent the laboratory on interdepartmental committees and working groups.
- Collaborate with leadership on continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ensure laboratory policies and procedures comply with all regulatory and accrediting standards.
- Monitor laboratory quality metrics and recommend improvements to prevent disruptions in patient care.
- Use oral, written, and electronic information to make sound decisions and document appropriately.
- Oversee quality management and accreditation activities, including responses to inspection findings.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology or Medical Laboratory Science from an accredited program.
- Alternatively, a Bachelor of Science in Biology, Chemistry, or related field with equivalent training and experience (including military).
Experience
- Minimum of five years as a Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist.
- Preferred: Three years in a supervisory role in a laboratory or medical setting.
Licensure and Certification
- ASCP certification or equivalent nationally recognized certification required.
- Must meet CLIA standards for high complexity testing personnel as outlined in 42CFR493.1489.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of laboratory operations, regulatory standards, and quality control principles.
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and hospital EMR systems.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills for leadership, scheduling, evaluations, and feedback.
