JOB SUMMARY:
The System Architect supports the Command and Control, Battle Management and Communications (C2BMC) program within the Missile Defense and Space mission areas. This role is responsible for defining and evolving system architecture solutions that describe the vision, structure, and capabilities of the C2BMC system. The System Architect works as part of an integrated architecture and systems engineering team on a multi-company program, collaborating across technical disciplines to deliver scalable, interoperable, and mission-aligned solutions.
SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Support the definition of operational, physical, functional, and technical architectures for evolving C2BMC capabilities.
- Participate in architecting missile defense command and control and battle management systems leveraging existing and COTS/GOTS components with DoD interoperability in mind.
- Analyze high-level mission and system needs using structured and logical engineering approaches.
- Create system architecture concepts and solutions for new and emerging C2BMC capabilities.
- Collaborate with lead Systems Architects, software architects, network architects, cyber architects, and other architecture stakeholders.
- Communicate and collaborate on system architecture solutions with software development, network engineering, cyber engineering, DevSecOps, infrastructure, test, deployment, and operations teams.
- Develop and maintain both physical and logical system architectures.
- Interface with project leads, product owners, and Missile Defense Agency (MDA) customers.
- Serve as the focal point for system architecture for assigned capabilities across development, test, and deployment efforts.
- Present system architecture concepts to a wide range of technical and non-technical audiences.
- Present and support internal and external design reviews.
- Assist with documenting and reviewing architectures in Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools such as CAMEO.
- Maintain awareness of current and emerging technologies and design methodologies relevant to DoD Command and Control systems and COTS/FOSS IT products.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Systems Engineering and Architecture experience supporting complex DoD programs.
- Experience developing system architecture solutions and concepts.
- Ability to work effectively in an integrated, multi-discipline engineering team environment.
- Experience collaborating with software, network, cyber, infrastructure, test, and deployment teams.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to diverse technical audiences.
- Experience creating and presenting system architecture briefings and design artifacts.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Systems Engineering or Architecture experience on a DoD Command and Control program.
- Experience with C2BMC or similar complex DoD Command and Control (C2) systems.
- Experience as a Technical Lead, Systems Engineering SME, or technical leader on Missile Defense, Space, or Link 16 domain programs.
- Experience developing new system architecture concepts and solutions.
- Experience working in environments leveraging existing or COTS/GOTS components with DoD interoperability considerations.
- Experience identifying and defining system capabilities and communicating those capabilities to engineers, developers, subject matter experts, and users.
- Experience developing system engineering and architecture artifacts such as specifications, Interface Control Documents (ICDs), use cases, system architecture descriptions, and trade studies.
- Experience creating architecture designs, reviewing technical artifacts, and presenting at DoD customer design reviews.
- Experience serving as a technical leader for DoD systems engineering or development efforts.
- Familiarity with private cloud solutions and IT technologies such as VMware, Nutanix, RedHat, and network solutions.
- Familiarity with DoD cybersecurity requirements and Risk Management Framework (RMF).
- Familiarity with software development and Java-based systems.
- Familiarity with DevSecOps and Digital Engineering Transformation (DET) methodologies.
- Familiarity with Agile development methodologies.
- Familiarity with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and CAMEO.
- Familiarity with requirements management tools such as DOORS.
EDUCATION: Bachelors with 9+ or Master with 7+ Years of Experience
