Overview
The Tax Incentive Engineer will be a key member of the Energy Efficiency Commercial Buildings Deduction (179D) and Research and Experimentation (R&E) Tax Credit team. This individual will have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, as well as a strong engineering background. This will be an opportunity to be part of a growing, dynamic team and to help our clients take advantage of multiple tax incentives.
Major Responsibilities
- 179D Deduction Projects
- Review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, field notes, and photographs to help develop accurate 3D models of existing buildings
- Perform energy modeling simulations for 179D using DOE software
- Prepare clear and professional project documentation and communicate progress with internal teams and clients
- Assist PE with commercial building inspections
- R&E Tax Credit projects
- Assist with the determination of project methodologies taking advantage of available client information and documentation
- Assist with determination of qualified research expenditures
- Assist with review of R&E tax credit project deliverables including reports and project narratives
- Business development
- Participate in client/prospect calls and meetings to identify potential research tax credit opportunities
- Assist with client/prospect follow up for the development of credit estimates and proposals
Required Experience/Background/Skills
- Proficiency with CAD Software
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering discipline
- Proficient in Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- High attention to detail, initiative and follow through
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Highly motivated, professional, energetic and resourceful
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as a team member
- Comfortable engaging with clients
- Ability to review and analyze construction drawings
Preferred Experience
- EIT or working towards EIT
- Desire to become a Professional Engineer (P.E.)
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including experience with data analytics tools, including Power Pivot and Power Query.
- Experience in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction industry
- Knowledge of commercial building HVAC
- Experience with energy modeling software
Working Conditions
- The typical office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Ability to work extra hours as determined by the workload and client expectations, especially approaching tax deadlines
- Up to 20% travel to other RubinBrown offices and client sites may be required
- Ability to sit for long periods of time
- Ability to move throughout office
- Ability to lift, carry, push, pull up to 10 pounds
- Ability to communicate with clients, team members, etc.
