Job Description
Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) is a multi-disciplinary arts center located in Brooklyn, New York. For more than 150 years, BAM has been the home for adventurous artists, audiences, and ideas-engaging both global and local communities. With world-renowned programming in theater, dance, music, opera, film, and much more, BAM showcases the work of emerging artists and innovative modern masters.
Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) seeks three highly qualified and experienced Teaching Artists who specialize in teaching poetry, spoken word, and/or theater, emphasizing BIPOC and LGBTQ+ playwrights in an 9th-12th grade setting during the 2025-2026 academic year.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Facilitate a one-time or a sequential series (i.e., residency) of in-person or virtual workshops within BAM Education Word.Sound.Power in the Classroom (poetry/spoken word) cohort
- Participate in virtual or in-person multi-day curriculum development meetings at BAM with fellow BAM teaching artists to develop step-by-step lesson plans per BAM's template(s)
- Communicate with school administrators/teachers to determine workshop scheduling
- Participate in planning/reflection meetings with BAM staff and school partners
- Support program assessment and evaluation procedures
- Support the planning and coordination of culminating student events
- Attend BAM TA staff meetings, Word.Sound.Power in the Classroom observations, professional development, and reflection meetings
- Attend BAM relevant performances
