Job Description:

Boston Conservatory at Berklee (BCB) seeks a temporary Stage Manager (SM) to manage rehearsals and orchestrate runs-of-show for the Spring 2026 Dance Division Commercial Dance Concert. The SM supports the execution of production planning as developed with the production team and artistic collaborators; supervises all onstage activities for the assigned production; collects and disseminates production information; and ensures that all post-production needs are met.

Under the Performance Services department, the temporary Stage Manager reports to the Assistant Director of Production, collaborates closely with all production staff, and supervises the staff assistant stage manager (staff ASM) and student assistant stage managers (student ASMs). This is a temporary position with the following required dates:

● Production meetings beginning in November 2025

● Spacing rehearsal February 2, 2026

● Tech rehearsal February 3, 2026

● Dress rehearsals February 4-5, 2026

● Performances February 6-7, 2026

● Post-production meetings as requested

● Additional meetings and rehearsals to be scheduled

Pre-production work may be completed remotely. The SM will be required in person February 2 - 7, 2026. This performance will take place at the Huntington Theater, located at 264 Huntington Avenue, Boston, MA, with additional rehearsals and meetings occurring on campus.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

● Serve as the Production Stage Manager (PSM) for assigned production

● Supervise and train student ASM(s)

● Attend, lead, record, and disseminate information from production meetings to stakeholders

● Support and supervise spacing rehearsals, technical and dress rehearsals for assigned production

● Manage and communicate rehearsal and performance schedules and production information

● Coordinate rehearsal prop procurement and organization

● Liaise with Huntington Theater staff to ensure smooth operations, including Front of House and Production support

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

● 3-5 years of professional experience as a Stage Manager for dance, theater, or opera. Preference will be given to those with experience in stage managing for dance.

● Experience working with student performers and crew is preferred

● Experience working at the Huntington Theater is preferred

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

● Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google suite

SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

● Exceptional organizational skills

● Strong leadership and collaboration skills

● Exceptional facilitation and communication skills

● Ability to read or follow scores strongly preferred

● Ability to work independently

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

● Staff Assistant Stage Manager(s)

● Student Assistant Stage Manager(s)

● Production Technicians

● Student Crew

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

● Indoor environments, some with low light: office space, stages, backstage areas, dressing rooms, storage spaces, costume shop

● Seated and standing positions

SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS, PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, ETC:

● Ability to climb short ladders

● Ability to lift objects of up to 30 pounds

● Nights and weekends required
