Job Summary
This role includes an eight-month training period and involves several key responsibilities: inspecting fired tile for defects, counting and recording tile losses, packing tile into boxes, and organizing finished tile according to the correct client order. Once complete, all work orders must be accurately entered into our computer system.
Success in this role requires learning the full range of tile glazes and understanding acceptable variations, as well as becoming familiar with all tile sizes, shapes, and quality control (QC) standards—including the ability to adapt to changes in those standards.
Primary Responsibilities
- Learn all 100+ glazes and 30+ shapes and sizes
- Maintain knowledge of current QC standards
- Sorting first v. second quality tile and coding seconds with proper class code
- Recording sorted totals on production orders and sales orders and entering them into Netsuite or another computer system.
- Boxing first and second quality tile
- Labeling boxes with all appropriate information
- Organize fired tile on carts for the QC team to process
- Track daily totals
Secondary Responsibilities
- Preparation of physical collateral (samples, boxing dual glaze)
- As needed, assist with labeling samples
- Assist other members of the QC Team with production orders
- All other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Requirements
The ideal candidate demonstrates strong attention to detail, works efficiently without compromising quality, and consistently follows all safety protocols. They must have a positive attitude, foster a team-oriented environment, and communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Additional qualifications include:
- Proficiency in basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
- Accuracy in counting and comfort using computers and tablets
- Ability to carefully read and follow work orders, with clear and legible handwriting
- Excellent people skills: patient, flexible, and calm under pressure
Physical Requirements (Medium to Heavy)
- The ability to transport clay, finished goods, and other production materials (up to 35 lbs. at a time). Total weight lifted per day can be 3500 to 5000 lbs.
- Other activities, including climbing, balancing, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, repetitive motion, grasping, and feeling.
Visual Acuity Requirements (including color, depth perception, and field vision)
The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as: preparing and inspecting materials; visual inspection involving small defects, small objects, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and visual checks of materials and machinery. The worker will also need visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.

None required but a plus.
Work Environment/ Hours / CompensationThis position is a full-time, non-exempt, role that is on-site at our San Francisco Factory & Showroom. The hours for this position are 5:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. This is a Union position and begins at $25.00 hourly.
