Job Description
- Provides intensive, direct, academic therapy in individual and small group tutoring sessions.
- Implements the Orton-Gillingham method with fidelity.
- Facilitates learning as a guide and coach to assist the student to become a successful, independent learner.
- Plans and utilizes appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology that reflect an understanding of students’ learning styles and needs.
- Evaluates students to measure skill progression and to determine areas of improvement.
- Works to ensure high levels of learning, social-emotional development, and achievement outcomes for each student.
- Manages student behavior to maximize their learning potential and minimize disruptions to others.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate person.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education or Academic Language Therapy, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in teaching remedial reading or providing academic language therapy.
- Documented training and experience using one of the following: Orton-Gillingham Approach, Wilson Method, Preventing Academic Failure (PAF), The Lindamood-Bell Program, or Rave-O.
- Extensive knowledge and experience working with students who have reading difficulties.
- Must possess certification of “Mandatory Reporter Training” or obtain it during the first week of employment.
- Must possess and maintain First Aid/CPR certification or obtain within ninety (90) days of employment.
- Ability to work odd and irregular hours, as needed.
- Must successfully pass the required criminal and character background check.
- Ability to travel and participate in required training, leadership development, and other events.
- Ability to perform all duties and responsibilities of this position adequately and successfully.

- Must be friendly and courteous at all times and must possess exemplary customer service skills.
- Must be able to establish rapport with students and communicate well with them quickly
- Must be a positive role model for students.
- Must be well organized and possess attention to detail.
- Must be proficient in Excel and Word.
- Must be able to effectively manage groups of children while working with each child in the group.
- Exhibits appropriate and professional behavior at all times while maintaining emotional control under stress.
- Must possess the ability to encourage and empower students and act as an advocate on their behalf.
- Ability to identify students’ need for support services and to make appropriate referrals.
- Demonstrate the ability to attend work regularly to avoid disruptions to program operations and student success.
- Ability to remain engaged until assignments are completed and overcome obstacles.
- Takes accountability for performance and results.
- Open and honest communicator who follows policies and procedures.
- The starting pay will depend on factors such as experience level and skillset.
