Job Description

Rye Country Day School is seeking an Upper School Chemistry Teacher for a leave replacement position beginning January 5, 2026 through approximately February 2, 2026. Rye Country Day School is a coeducational, PreK–12 college preparatory school located in Westchester County, New York, dedicated to providing students with an excellent education using both traditional and innovative approaches. Specific responsibilities of the position include:

  • Teach two sections of Honors Chemistry and one section of Organic Chemistry, a post-AP course
  • Implement existing course materials and maintain continuity of instruction in collaboration with the department chair
  • Grade student work and provide written reports as needed
  • Maintain regular communication with students, families, deans, and relevant support staff
  • Participate in school, divisional, and departmental meetings as appropriate for long-term substitute faculty
  • Support a positive, engaging learning environment rooted in high expectations, curiosity, and academic integrity
  • Demonstrate a commitment to student learning, personal growth, and professional collaboration

Desired qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a related Physical Science required; advanced degree preferred
  • Experience teaching high school Chemistry; background in Organic Chemistry or advanced chemistry instruction strongly preferred
  • Skilled in designing or delivering laboratory-based instruction and maintaining safe lab practices
  • Excellent oral, written, and organizational skills
  • Comfort with technology, including a 1:1 laptop environment and a learning management system
  • A well-developed sensitivity, knowledge, and understanding of the diverse backgrounds of students and community members; a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Genuine enthusiasm for working with Upper School students and collaborating with colleagues
