Job Description
Generate birth certificates of live births for each birth at hospital. Create and process Paternity Affidavits for unwed parents following established State guidelines. Obtain statistical patient information required for processing of birth certificates. Work directly with the office of MA HHS, Vital Records to accurately, and efficiently file all birth certificates through the state electronic birth filing system, Vital Information Processing (VIP).
Required Skills/Qualifications/Training/Experience:
- Excellent communication skills including the ability to handle sensitive personal patient information in a professional, tactful manner.
- Responsible for safeguarding patient records and ensuring compliance with HIPAA standards.
- Ability to maintain organized, detailed records of the birth registration process including a status audit trail for each unsigned birth certificate.
- Excellent command of oral and written English; positive interpersonal communication dynamic and strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize
- Excellent administrative and telephone skills.
- Self-starter with a strong sense of ownership and the ability to work independently on assigned tasks as appropriate
- A minimum of one year office/clerical/computer or equivalent experience.
- Knowledge of medical terminology with solid computer data entry skills.
- Proficiency in technology usage, including Microsoft Office programs
- Must have Notary Public license or ability to become a Notary Public within six months of initial tenure
Preferred Skills/Qualifications/Training/Experience:
- Minimum one year of Birth Registry experience
- Experience in Vital Information Processing (VIP) system
- Experience in Meditech and Cerner a plus
Educational Requirements:
- High school graduate with Associates Degree preferred
License/Certification:
- RHIT preferred
