Job Description

Job Overview:

The VP, Tech Control Engineering role is a highly collaborative role. The incumbent will be responsible for working with partners in Risk, Cyber Security and Audit to help design and implement infrastructure configurations that meet our emerging tech control standards and align with our corporate IT risk & governance posture. This individual will have influence across all engineering deliverables on prem, spanning compute, database and storage. They will be responsible for ensuring that all technical controls are met and to monitor & address deviations within our (emerging) SLAs. You will be responsible for gatekeeping all audits, ensuring that all evidence is provided from reliable, authoritive sources and is delivered within agreed timelines. This is a senior Individual Contributor role who will manage most efforts through a matrixed organization – adhering to our principal of functionally aligned infrastructure engineering teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with risk and security to understand the corporate risk posture, the tech control framework and the underlying controls.

  • For each service basis work with the control owners and engineers to agree technical implementations of the controls, how control compliance will be logged and how defects will be reported and remediated.

  • Work with control owners to agree recertification schedules and work with the SMEs to re-certify each control, each year within the allotted time

  • Ensure all control complaint infrastructure patterns are created by engineering teams and are easy for application teams to consume; Available as either Service Now catalogue items or via IaC (Terraform) patterns depending on platform.

  • Run point for all audits on behalf of infrastructure engineering, responsible for coordinating with the team to gather evidence, configuration standards and other data and deliver them to audit within SLA

  • Keep track of all audit requests and formalize a process to provide evidence of delivery.        

  • Develop a progressive engineering culture that fosters creativity, collaboration, and continuous improvement 

  • Integrate / automate deployment and provisioning of highly available infrastructure across data centers / hybrid cloud platform to reduce overall time to market

  • Build / Maintain strong partnerships with IT stakeholders including Delivery Engineering, Application Development, Architecture, Security and Operations to ensure technology investment enables/drives business strategy 

  • Anticipate business need and influence infrastructure and architecture roadmaps across product teams

  • Foster and drive organizational change through technology and process optimization

  • Evaluate, recommend and influence procurement decisions for tools and frameworks for effective delivery

  • Establishes a framework of repeatable / scalable processes for dynamic, centralized IT organization supporting multiple business units

  • Manage ongoing vendor relationships including evaluation products and services 

  • Develop / attract / retain top talent to build and maintain a world class organization

  • Establish KPIs to measure organization performance and effectiveness

Requirements:

  • 10+ years of technology leadership focused on scalable, resilient infrastructure on-prem and in cloud environments.

  • Direct experience running an IT Risk function for a large financial institution.

  • Progressive leadership experience building / leading engineering teams in a large, regulated, global financial institution.

  • Demonstrated technology and people leadership experience in architecting / developing / transforming cloud platforms and services. (migrations & native implementations)

  • Proven experience with managing on-prem services, deep understanding of how to curate these in a secure manner.

  • Proven track record of infrastructure transformation focused on infrastructure-as-code (IaC) for end-to-end infrastructure deployment automation

  • Proven experience leading engineering teams using Agile software development and LEAN/DevOps/SRE principles to deliver new platforms and services

  • Proven experience with cloud financial management that brings overall clarity and accountability of operating IT workloads in the cloud (FinOps)

  • Bachelor’s/Advance degree and/or related field experience required

  • Ability to convey technical solutions to the entire organization and experience working with senior leaders across the firm to leverage technology to drive positive business outcomes

  • Agile mindset; Possess a thorough understanding of modern work practices such as DevOps, Continuous Delivery, Agile project Delivery

  • Extensive experience working in large technology ecosystems with emphasis on integrating multiple externally facing high scale, high volume, always-on mission-critical systems

  • Ability to create and articulate inspiring vision for the engineering organization 

  • Experience with a data driven approach to designing and implementing technology

  • Extensive experience deploying system management configuration tools (Ansible, Puppet, Terraform, CF) to manage compute infrastructure at scale

  • Highly collaborative with experience in leading and influencing teams

  • Foster a culture of excellence and ownership

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the regulatory, security, privacy and risk safeguards required of a global financial institution

Pay Range:

$133,125-$221,875/yearActual base salary varies based on factors, including but not limited to, relevant skill, prior experience, education, base salary of internal peers, demonstrated performance, and geographic location.
