Job Description

SUMMARY

Directs warehousing activities for organization by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Establishes operational procedures for activities such as verification of incoming and outgoing shipments, handling and disposition of materials, and keeping warehouse inventory current.
  • Prepares paperwork and reports for incoming and outgoing shipments for appropriate product lines.
  • Prepare and maintain storage records by lot number and customer name.
  • Inspects physical condition of warehouse and equipment. Prepares work order for repairs and requisitions for replacement of equipment.
  • Confers with department heads to ensure coordination of warehouse activities.
  • Operate and maintain forklift according to state and federal regulations.
  • Operate and maintain warehouse scale according to state and federal regulations.
  • Train employees in proper vaulting, racking, palletizing, warehousing techniques and inventory techniques, to provide claim-free storage.
  • Directs salvage of damaged or used material according to state and federal regulations.
  • Participates in planning personnel safety and warehouse protection and quality activities.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises 2 to 4 employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include  training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and high, precarious places.  The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions.  The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
