Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Ultrapure Water (UPW) & Wastewater Engineering Technician to support the reliable operation, maintenance, and optimization of critical process systems within a state-of-the-art semiconductor facility. This role ensures continuous availability of ultrapure and deionized water while maintaining environmental compliance across wastewater treatment systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate, monitor, and maintain all Ultrapure Water (UPW), Deionized Water (DI), and Wastewater systems to ensure stable performance, compliance, and system reliability.
  • Conduct daily rounds and readings, verifying process parameters, alarm conditions, and equipment health through field inspections and control systems (SCADA/BMS/Cimplicity).
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation equipment in accordance with approved job plans and safety procedures.
  • Execute calibration and verification of field instruments, including temperature, pressure, flow, conductivity, pH, level, and TOC sensors, ensuring traceability and documentation accuracy.
  • Monitor process quality data and sample results, escalating deviations from specification to engineering and implementing corrective actions as directed.
  • Collect and prepare process, environmental, and wastewater samples following chain-of-custody and analytical requirements, coordinating with laboratories and EHS teams as needed.
  • Support troubleshooting and resolution of equipment alarms, process upsets, and system performance issues through root cause investigation and collaboration with engineering.
  • Maintain and update all PM/CM activities, calibration results, and operational data within the CMMS (e.g., Maximo), ensuring traceable and compliant recordkeeping.
  • Ensure strict adherence to all site safety standards including LOTO, confined space, arc flash, and chemical handling procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment across all process areas, tools, and maintenance equipment.
  • As Shift Lead (when assigned), serve as the primary point of contact for shift operations—coordinating daily work execution, prioritizing PM/CM activities, assigning tasks to technicians, and ensuring completion of rounds, readings, and sampling requirements.
  • Oversee system operation during assigned shifts, making on-the-spot operational decisions necessary to maintain process control, safety, and uptime, while escalating significant issues to engineering.
  • Provide accurate shift passdowns, documenting all maintenance, alarms, and process events to ensure continuity across 24x7 operations.
  • Act as Equipment Owner for assigned UPW/Waste assets, maintaining full accountability for system reliability, PM effectiveness, and performance tracking.
  • Lead ownership responsibilities by initiating corrective work orders, coordinating repairs, verifying functionality post-maintenance, and updating equipment histories and documentation.
  • Support engineering with performance data, system trends, and field insights to guide technical decisions, reliability reviews, and system optimization.
  • Participate in system startups, commissioning activities, and requalification testing following major repairs or engineering modifications.
  • Provide input on engineering change requests and setpoint adjustments, validating system impact and ensuring proper control response in the field.
  • Maintain awareness of critical control loops and process interlocks, ensuring alarms and safeguards are operational and properly configured.
  • Support environmental monitoring activities including stormwater, outfall, or containment inspections, recording data accurately and escalating anomalies.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams (Facilities Engineering, EHS, Quality, OEMs) to ensure compliance with performance, safety, and reporting standards.
  • Mentor and assist junior technicians, promoting best practices, operational consistency, and strong safety culture across shifts.
  • Demonstrate leadership, ownership, and professionalism in all aspects of Waste/UPW operations, acting as a key interface between operations, maintenance, and engineering.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on system reliability, operational efficiency, and preventive maintenance optimization.
  • Any other duties or responsibilities that may be assigned to you in your role.

Skills Required:

  • 3+ years of experience in UPW, wastewater, or similar high-purity process environments (semiconductor, pharmaceutical, power generation, or industrial water treatment).
  • Strong understanding of pumps, valves, filtration, RO, UV, ion exchange, and related treatment systems.
  • Familiarity with control and monitoring systems (SCADA/BMS/Cimplicity) and CMMS software (e.g., Maximo).
  • Proven commitment to safety standards and EHS compliance procedures.

Education / Licenses / Certifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Associate’s, Bachelor’s degree or technical diploma in Engineering, Mechanical, or related field preferred, but not required.
  • Proof of education, licenses, and certifications will be required where applicable.

Benefits:

  • Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance
  • Life, Short-Term, Long-Term Disability Insurance
  • Training and Education Assistance
  • 401k Retirement Plan
  • Extra Annual Leave with Years of Service
