Job Description
POSITION: Wound Care Support Nurse (CMA/LPN)DEPARTMENT: ClinicHOURS: 64 hours per pay period/ Non-Exempt
WAGE RANGE: $24.19 - $31.14GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist the wound care provider in patient evaluations, treatments, and follow-up care.
- Perform wound assessments, dressing changes, and assist with wound care procedures per provider direction and established protocols.
- Document patient encounters, treatments, and progress accurately within the electronic health record (EHR).
- Provide patient education on wound management, dressing care, and prevention strategies.
- Coordinate with providers, nurses, and ancillary services to ensure continuity of care.
- Support inventory management of wound care supplies and ensure clinic readiness.
- Participate in cross-training and provide clinical support for specialty areas.
- Provide occasional rooming support in Primary Care when needed to ensure smooth clinic operations.
- Maintain compliance with organizational policies, infection control standards, and best practices in wound management.
EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE:
:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Current certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Strong clinical assessment, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Willingness to be cross trained in multiple specialty care areas.
Preferred:
- Prior experience in wound care, specialty or outpatient clinic settings.
- Wound Care Certification (WCC, CWCA, or equivalent).
- Experience with electronic health record systems (Epic preferred).
SKILL(S):
- Ability to communicate (verbal and written) effectively and professionally with clients of all ages, co-workers, practitioners and administration.
- Patient Education: Ability to explain complex care instructions clearly and compassionately to patients and families.
- Positive attitude.
- Ability to work well within a team and independently for any nurse-led visits.
- Good organizational skills.
- Detail oriented.
- Time Management: Prioritizes tasks efficiently in a fast-paced clinical environment while maintaining quality care standards.
- Adaptability: Willingness to learn new specialties and float between departments as needed.
- Technical Proficiency: Skilled in aseptic technique, wound measurement, and use of wound care products and compression therapy.
- Critical Thinking: Recognizes changes in wound healing or patient condition and appropriately escalates concerns.
